Wow, you are so witty and funny! It's not like I have heard that 100 times before. Try to be more original.
geez warhawk, lighten up
I really can't seem to be able to find old posts anymore. There was one called "Funny. Like this forum?" and it was Red vs. Blue talking about the internet. Hilariuos!
The whole Special Olympics thing is kind of offensive
it's a joke
PC rules don't count with jokes.
who started all this PC crap anyway. it's ruined life as we know it
Yeah, I was actually in the circle of friends group in my high school, when I was in high school. Even though they are considered retarded, from what the teachers said, they can still tell when they are being picked on and such. I never picked on any though, so I wouldn't know.
It is just a joke though.
Just 1/2 the day right ?
jUST SO YOU FOLKS KNOW WHERE i STAND, i HAVE A HALF BROTHER WHO IS A SPECIAL OLYMPIAN AND i WAS A VOLOUNTEER WHEN THEY WERE HELD IN MY TOWN A FEW YEARS AGO.. IT WAS ONE OF THE MOST WONDERFUL THINGS i HAVE EVER SEEN OR DONE.. tRUE SPORTSMANSHIP AND PEOPLE HAVING THIER DAY IN THE SUN... LETS NOT TAKE THAT AWAY FROM THEM....
I'll admit that the first time I saw that joke I laughed due to the pure shock value of it - just like I laugh at Family Guy. It is unfortunate that these people are the object of the joke. The special olympics is a great organization that helps these people interact more with society and meet new people. I have to agree with RoyalHighlander (though I'll do so without accidently tripping the Caps Lock button ) - these people are, in many cases, expected to have greatly shortened life spans; they do not experience the same quality of living as the rest of us, and quite simply, they'll never achieve what a normal person can in life. The special olympics is one way that we can help them feel important and given them confidence despite their disability - making fun of these people is simply wrong, even if it's just for shock value. [In case you haven't guessed, I didn't find the Family Guy episode re: the Special Olympics overly funny at times!]
To me it's just a joke. We all know, at least I hope most of us know, that "special" people have feelings too. It's just like when you watch southpark or family guy, as the above poster noted. It's just a joke, meant to be offensive, just like any other comedian does. The other day I was watching the Bill Mauhr HBO comedy special thing, and he went on making jokes about muslims, and their countries, and etc, and I'm sure many people could find it offensive, but it's just meant to get a laugh. I think if you went up to a "special" person and told them the joke it would be cruel, but posting it on the internet as a comparison to all the arguing on the net doesn't seem that bad to me. Sure it's offensive, but it's not like he told it to the peoples face. I dunno, I don't want to piss anyone off because I can understand why people would find it offensive, but to me it's just a shocking joke, and there's much worse ones out there. Just my 2 cents, and last 2 cents on this matter.
