I was wondering what you all think of the blizzard and freezing temps going on in the US, considering Canada usually has these types of temps(although I remember New York and other states having alot of snow last year and very cold temps.) I remember being on here are while ago and someone was telling me that 0 degree temps are short weather in Canada. So I was wondering if this blizzard in the US would be short weather for you all or if you all would freeze like most Americans are?
I think anyone here would have to admit it sucks but we get so used to it. Just a good ole.."son of a bitch" and with shovel and or snowblower we git'r done.
Yeah, I used to visit my family in Chicago and Wisconsin when it would snow. They seem to get a little bit of snow up there, so I know about people having to clean stuff up. I mean it's probably not as bad as some places in Canada, but Wisconsin is right next to Canada, so I would guess that some temps would be the same there. I might be in Texas, but I'm a northerner at heart -- love the cold. I just mainly remember a while ago, like last year, when I was on here some dude was giving me shit saying that 0 degrees is short weather in Canada. I mean, while 0 degrees might be normal up there, I can't imagine anyone wearing shorts in 0 degrees weather. I dunno, maybe the guy was crazy haha.
Yes it is all what you get used to Johnny. I prefer -20C to +15C range my wife likes summers that hit the +40C range. I like the dark cold of winter she likes the bright sun and heat of summer.
I'd have to say the best thing about winter is you can put on a jacket and get warm, but during the summer it seems harder to stay cool. At least in Texas it does, when it hits 100 sometimes. I'm talking in terms of Fahrenheit though. I was born in the north where it would actually stay cold all winter, I just remember always being used to wearing a winter jacket. I mean, I think we can admit that anyone wearing shorts in the winter, even if it's only 0 degrees, is an idiot or just trying to impress people and act all macho.
I am a little bias on that one Johnny, my legs are so scared up I never do shorts...
After a week or 2 of -20 to -30 degrees johnny, 0 is a freaking heat wave!!! dont know if i would wear shorts though....id sayt you were having your leg pulled...unless he works for UPS..those bastards a NUTS....as for snow!!!....bah...these boys dont know nutin about snow!! goto the west coast of NFLD if ya wanna see snow...im sure parts of BC too...it snow a couple feet one day here in Calgary a few yrs back and the freaking city pretty much shut down.....I still made it too work in my oldsmobile with bananna peels for tires, while guys with 4x4's didnt! Pussies
I have to agree with -0 being a heat wave. It depends though in the fall I would swear -0 is way to freaking COLD but come spring -5C I am out there with a t-shirt and jeans (I hate shorts). That is what I was doing today in fact. It was -0C here YEAH! Bring on the heat!
I forgot to add. There actually is a reason for that though. Continuous exposer to colder temps make your skin thicker. Makeing cold more tolerable. So in short we are just thicker skinned =]
You all do know I'm talking about fahrenheit temps, right? When I was talking to the guy maybe he thought I was talking about celsius. I mean, 0 degrees celcius isn't THAT cold. I mean, I could see someone wearing shorts and managing in that. What I have been referring to though would be around -17 degrees celcius.
LOL I thought about that after the fact. I personally would not go out in a t-shirt in -0F I know people who do but then again those guys are trappers and are out skidooing in -40C for several hours. BTDT not doing that no more!
my boss just came back from new york and he was telling me that they were having snow storm warning and when he woke up the next day there was something like 2 inchs of snow! funny i always though new york and the east coast got a lot of snow. weird
He must be talking about celcius johny. I know where I live I only put on a jacket once this winter, and that was after my car was in the ditch and I had to wait for the towtruck. Normal winter gear for me is runners (maybe my CAT work boots if its slushy), pair of jeans, t-shirt, hoodie. I woke up this morning and got ready. Wore a t-shirt all day but it turns out it was -2 all day as a high. But it was not windy. Without wind it is SO much easier to stand the cold. Where I live here, we average about -8 all winter but can dip down to about -20. Thats all without wind. We live in a valley with a lake on either side of the city, always windy.
(ALL temperatures in this post are in celcius)
I would think the sequential order of the temperature dropping below zero is as follows: cold, colder, and bone chilling. I live in Virginia and to some people here when it reaches zero, it's like the end of the world. When my husband (who considers himself an hono(u)rary Canadian, most Minnesotans feel they're more Canadian than American) moved here, I'll never forget that he kept laughing at people "all bundled up" on a 4C day here, but to us that's still pretty cold...
Below zero and minus 40 are two totally different kinds of cold. Yea, temp matters under zero.
I woke up a couple days ago and everything was covered in a nice even coating of white. Probably a little less than two inches, but enough to turn evrything white. Made my day! Don't see that very often down here.
I smiling all the way into work... then I had to listen to all my co-workers bitch about the weather for the rest of the day. I was probably minus four C.
