lily lily:
I spent a nice relaxing Canada Day with a friend and even managed to get a little homework done.

My kids were in Ottawa at the National Gymnaestrada festivities. They did well enough that their team earned a spot at Worlds next year..... in Austria. :D

They spent today at the War museum - my son loved it, but was disappointed that they couldn't spend more time there - he felt they rushed him through the exhibits and he only got to see as far as WWI. Tomorrow they go to the mint... the one that makes the commemorative coins.
I hope they bring me something. ;)

I thought Winnipeg did that?

They have all sorts of neat stuff there. They do test presses where they use copper and do quarter imprints and vice versa. A guy I know in the RCMP used to be a guard there and he told me how one of the other guards was stealing these test coins and trying to sell them to collectors and pawn shops.

I played a concert in the park from 11 'till 4pm. Ate somebody else's free hot dog somwhere in between. Put on a maple leaf temporary tattoo. Spent the rest of the day at a bar talking about what our new national anthem should be. Lost my cell phone and then passed out at the foot of a family member's bed while I tried to explain to them the horror of losing my cell and how important it was that we find it right away. Ah to be young at patriotic.

Went to the cottage. Kayaking in the surf, practiced the first half of an eskimo roll. Hoping to get a hang of the second half by the end of the summer (lost my sungalsses in the process).
!

I lost my sunglasses too, going head first 50 miles an hour into 100 feet of water.

There are some sturgeons in our lake wearing some expensive sunglasses now.

A BBQ in the park with friends, with lots of great food and sports, followed by watching the fireworks at the High Level Bridge with my brother.

I tried taking some pictures of the fireworks, but my camera doesn't take very good night pics and they are all blurry. A couple of videos I took turned out nice though.

I like to hit the lake as the ice is just breaking up. This is Crowsnest lake on the Alberta side of the continental divide.
