I have never visited your fine country nor know any Canadians, my only exposure to Canadians is limited to 2 posters on a UK forum and this place. However, from what I have seen and the comparrison I can draw from exposure to your American cousins is that as a nation you are a pretty ok lot (must be something to do with the close links to the UK )
Whilst Americans are very much like the annoying cousin who bullied you as a child, who thought he was better than you as he lived in a bigger house, had all the newest toys but would not let you play with them, who was taught to be selfish and did not consider anyone else's feelings. But you Canadians seem like that kindly old uncle who never caused trouble at family functions, who was always ready with a bit of friendly wisdom and washed the pots up without being asked after a family dinner.
God bless Uncle Canada
Mother Britan's alright too.
Yes; long live the UK.
I would personify Britian with Queen Elizabeth II. She's certianly there, she's not going away, and many nations hold a great deal of respect for her. As well, she is quite wealthy, educated and refined, she fights for tradition, and she's a leader in the Anglican Church.
She may take her teeth out and reminice about the glory days, however she's a tough old bird, and you can never pull the wool over her eyes, she knows exactly what you're thinking (she's been around long enough that she's seen it all).
I often feel like a kid pressing my nose against the glass, peering at Canadian culture inside, knowing I am an outsider. So many reasons to be jealous of my Canadian friends. Hope I get the chance soon to experience it more fully for myself! I too love Canada.

Oh this is an awesome thread!
Thank you Lord Melchet & Lola!
Love the "uncle" comparison, LOL !
Gee Lord_Melchet you're not such an old "stick in the mud" as I thought. If I ragged on you during one of my "gun" posts, I take it back. I just get a little bitchy when talking about that subject. Unlike you, I have been to the UK, and have worked with British soldiers in Canada, Germany and Cyprus, and on all accounts, I was treated great, and have many very good memories of those times.....
Cheers
I've been thinking, and I must stickup for my American cousins some what. I have meet a few of the ones you mentioned, but by far most of the Yanks I have met and know, are the kindness and most generous people I know. I think the sad thing is, Americans have the "Ugly American" image hanging over their heads, and us "others" have that thought in our heads. And when you meet one the Ugly Americans, I think most of use tend to remember them, instead of the nicer ones.....
I think we are pretty much the same the world over, it's our preconceptions that tant our perceptions....
Cheers all
