I only recently joined this site, but already, I've noticed that there seems to be a trend where some people post and get a lot of replies, but other people post and get no replies - or worse, they get ignored completely.
So, my question is this: In your opinion, what makes you reply to some, but not to others?
When I have something completely useless to say that means absolutely nothing I reply lots.
No I respond to anythign that I find interesting really. THe only time that I wont respond is when I jsut cant understand what the hell the person is talking about or if I just cant think about what to say, which is rare.
I will respond to serious posts, but i find on here if you express a serious opinion somebodytends to jsut shoot you down. People on here will not allow it to just be an expression of differnt opinions, somebody always have to win. That is okay, but it just gets frustrating sometimes. As well when you post somethign serious, after a little while you will get used to the people here and you will be able to predict the first five people who will respond and what they will say.
I dont have prefernce to whom I respond to, its just what they say. If somebody is being an idiot coughbartimpsoncough than I will jsut ignore their posts altogether.
I'll reply to most topics but like to be careful with who I'm speaking to . Its not hard to be misunderstood . I avoid a few most of the time but noone all of the time . Once you get to know people here you'll see not everyone loves everyone thats just the way the world turns but I havn't seen anyone here yet who hasn't come up with several good threads . Some people like to play on forum game threads which can get very entertaining others like Scape and Jamie come up with extremely interesting news articals and others like to call each other assholes and tell people where to go . Its all good and breaks the world up of monotone communication and relationships . You'll find most people like the news entertainment and sports , seldom if ever replyng at all . Alot of effort has been put into CKA , it is a good forum .
I tend to reply to the Threads that catch my eye. Generally these are in the History or Politics section, but if a thread is getting too 'inflamed', I'll just stay out of it.
Really, it comes down to what you're comfortable doing. Some people can jump into a heated debate with gusto, but I prefer to stay out of those most times.
I really appreciate that you've taken the time to share your opinions. Being new here, and having experience with another site in which topics often seem to get sidetracked, hijacked, and bushwhacked a lot, I can totally relate to the concept of staying out of the threads where flaming seems rampant.
So, for a newbie who tries to respond to threads of interest to them, if no one is acknowledging their input, what would you, the "veterans" of this site, offer to encourage them to keep posting? Sometimes, it can be really discouraging to reply to things if it feels like people are ignoring you, and that's why I asked what makes you reply to posts.
Definitely keep posting Wolf! A lot of the times the movement on the forums is so fast that threads skip to the bottom before anyone realises someone has posted something! It's happened to me on more than one occassion. It doesn't mean people don't care what you have to say, it's just that we're posting so much that sometimes it gets lost in the rumble lol
Definitely keep posting!
Hell yeah, keep posting. Believe me if you say something on here that some folks agree or disagree with you will get a response. But like dimoreien said some threads can blow past your post in a hurry so don't take it personal. I have 1400 and change posts here and only been here posting regularly since November.
Like most, I reply to topics I find interesting to me. I thought this was a very interesting topic idea, why didn't I think of it?
I mainly just stay away from politics and the debate forums.
Takes a while to get noticed by anyone... Jeez, I was up to 300 posts or so before anyone paid any attention to me
I think the main reason new members get ignored is because they don't realize what is interesting to the rest of the group, or what has already been discussed to death. Once you get a feel for the crowd, you'll know what people will notice.
Try to make the topic title interesting, too... I saw one thread called, "I have a question." and I thought, what an annoying thing to do.
There's that.
But whenever I see this one jerk from Halifax posting, I just have to follow up and rag on him for being such a jerk and from Halifax.
Other than that, I like to post poetry about birds in meadows and what the flowers think.
