I can try - slang is not the easiest thing to translate.. Is it slang from Quebec, slang from the Maritime, from Ontario??
Calice
I'm sure there has to be a word for "idiot American teenager who thinks Canadian history is filled with street gangs who speak wicked French slang."
T'es t'une osti d'rat!
For example, I know that "mec" is Frech Canadian slang for "dude". What's the female version of a "mec"?
None that I know about and that is mainstream.
But I think 'mec' is more used in France than in Quebec. I usually hear 'man'.
Hello. What is the techical term for French Canadian slang? is is Joual or l'argot?
I'm looking for French Canadian synonyms for the following terms. What is French Canadian slang for:
a tough guy
a spirited female
a tough female
a street-wise person
a smart/clever person
a tomboy, or mannish female, or female that likes to do "guy" things?
Please let me know.
I don't know even a regular french..not to mention canadian french slang..
Can someone please tell me what the difference is between joual and l'argot is?
Argot
Joual
Argot is a general term (basically the 'code speech' of a group of people) not limited to french, while joual is specifically French Canadian slang.
"Joual" would be specific to a kind of French spoken by some Canadians, "argot" means the same thing in French as it does in English, it's just a generic term for any slang in any language.
