Actually, A few escaped Pizarro by heading to Machu Picchu or conforming to the Spaniards. And Mulatto is a term describing the children of a white parent and a dark skinned parent.

Really wow, didnt know that, and besides, you can hardly call them Incas, the empires destroyed. The Inca leadership retreated to the mountain regions of Vilcabamba, where it remained for over another thirty years. In 1572, the last of the Inca rulers, Túpac Amaru, was beheaded and Tahuantinsuyu officially came to an end. It would be just like Italians claiming Roman ancestry when the Germanic tribes integrated throughout all the population over a period of a thousand years. I always thought the people died out before, dont get me wrong and you could be correct as im no geneticist and South American history is beyond me I admit (which I need to correct) so you could be right.
I can claim Inca Ancestry because my dads family was one the groups who began to live with the conquering Spaniards. But they were able to keep their Inca ways in private. Only 2 generations ago they married into a Ecuadorian Spanish/Jamaican Family. So I can proudly call my self a true native Inca. (even though Inca is a term to define the ruler of the Inca Empire). But my dad and I are of native descent. And my Moms family(the french-canadian half of it) have been here since 1535. And they lived in Quebec. My Grand mother however, was American and her ancestors came from Germany, Holland, all members of the UK, and Ireland.
I'm so multi-ethnic it hurts.
But I'm more French-Canadian/Incan than all the others, so thats what I describe to people when they ask me about my background.
