[font=Arial]One of my wife’s hobbies is collecting and reading cookbooks, saving hundreds of recipes and watching cooking shows on television. The other day she was watching a little Brit doing a show from Mexico. He held up two avocados by the stems, side-by-side, and said they were called “testicle trees” in Mexico. “I wonder why that is?” he said. A vision formed in my mind, of The Hulk, with those large, green, corrugated ovoids flying in the wind……..

My wife thought the host’s comment humorous, as I’m sure it was meant to be, but then we both started wondering if “avocado” really was another word for testicle in Spanish. (We have inquiring minds.)

I happen to have a Spanish/English dictionary on CD, so I looked it up. The Spanish spelling is “abogado” (but pronounced “avocado”) botanica-fruta: avocado(n) or derecho-hombre: lawyer (n). Not a word about testicles, unless you want to count lawyers. I suppose it’s just a local slang expression somewhere in Mexico.[/font]
