As a lifelong Albertan, I fully understand the rage about the NEP (my parents almost lost our house a couple times), but as a lifelong Canadian, to me, it wasn't that big a deal.

Guess that's what makes me different from most Albertans - I identify as a Canadian first and foremost, not as an Albertan.

Part of the problem, as I see it, is that the senior Trudeau never treated westerners as full Canadians. You would not have seen him try to pull the same stunt in Ontario or Quebec had they significant (and exploitable) petroleum reserves. Since Alberta (and the west) were not rich in votes and leaned towards the PCs and the NDP anyway hence he treated western Canada as a colony to exploit similar to MacDonald's National Policy back in the nineteenth century. That is why I believe there are many Albertans who identify with their province first and not their country. Men like PET never gave them a reason to strongly identify with Canada.

"Quebec is a distinct nation." Stephen Harper, Nov. 22, 2006

Misquote much?

~ "Our position is clear. Do the Québécois form a nation within Canada? The answer is yes. Do the Québécois form an independent nation? The answer is no and the answer will always be no," ~

Stephen Harper.

Man, the Quebecers are better than the rest of Canadians comment is sickening. I never saw that before. I know, I know he was young, insert other excuse, conservatives are meanies for quoting him. It's not like it's politics or something. /s

Uh oh. I just heard a loud bang. Heads across Alberta must have exploded.

No, that was just Kenmore's door slamming as he ran out to renew his Liberal party membership  . This must be like seeing the sun for the first time in seven years for him lol.

Under Moses they wandered for 40 years around a place that you can drive across in an hour......and Moses died without ever setting foot in the promised land.....he could see it, but he never made it.

Try looking for the context of the quote. He's actually describing his father's views about seperatists.

National post has the full quote and context

I hate to say it, but almost every PM we've had since Confederation has felt that way (Diefenbaker being the exception) about the West. That of course doesn't make it right, but it's s fact of life.

Instead of constantly complaining about past wrongs, we should be forgiving and forgetting and just get on with life - after all, it's what conservatives often tell the Natives, Chinese, Japanese and any other group that suffered due to policies created by our 'betters' in central Canada. Frankly, I find it hilarious that they don't see the hypocrisy in it.

You're right, up until WW2, most Albertans (50%+) actually came from the United States - which is no doubt a huge factor in the stream of right wing invective they hurl at the rest of the country on a near constant basis.

For the record, most of my family was born and raised in this province and we have just as much right to voice our concerns as you and your band of inbred hillbillies (AKA family) does. :P

I've seen your youtube vids.....you are a liar :P

I can see why you need a large SUV to haul your family around. Don't forget to inflate those tires to at least 40psi :P

Actually, if you'd watched my Youtube videos, you'd know I was as white as the bread you probably had for breakfast this morning. You'd also have seen videos of my trip to China, my super cute daugther Alexis, some videos from the Edmonton Street Performers Festival and videos of the Snowbirds at the Westaskiwin Air Show a few years ago.

I also never said I wanted a SUV, I said I wanted a minivan because I now have two little ones that need car seats that take up most of the backseat.

But like most everything you post on CKA, you're wrong yet again. Nice try though... :P

jj2424 @ Tue Apr 16, 2013 5:36 am

Lardo.....lardo family. :P I didn't say anything about the colour of your skin.

if you want to dish out family remarks you better be able to take them back.

Oh no, you called me fat! Maybe I should go all emo and start crying...

BFD, I know I'm over weight and I could care less what some know nothing hillbilly on the internet thinks about me.

If that's all you got, you got nothing sucka!

I'd love to stay and chat, but I've got to get to work and I'm sure you need to run down to the welfare office to pick up this month's check, so talk to you later! :P
