News Topic - Sikh Drivers refuse to wear hardhats
hwacker hwacker:
Fuck them, if they don't like it go back where they don't need hardhats. jeeeze.
Not being abrupt doesn't appear to be one of your problems
In BC, Sikhs with turbans are exempt from wearing helmets on motorcycles. We have stupid helmet laws already so lumping turbans in with BC beanies is not that much of a stretch. I've seen one or 2, puttering around on cruisers but I can't see how a turbans going to stay on at 140 on a sportbike.
It's dumb but it's own own fault for letting them get away with this.

OH boy, first knives then no hardhats. I bet after the knife one they think they can win this. Dispicable.
Most likely not. Like I mentioned in my earlier post, there is a precedent already on the books vis-a-vis hard hats and turbans and it's been that way for at least a decade.
And it's so nice to have hwanker back. I missed his random, nativist bigotry.
I believe it was in the late 70's when they challenged it at Kaiser's mine.
You cant beat the mine's act(now called the "Health,Safety and Reclamation code") and section 1.8.3 says you have to wear it,only variance granted is for when it's not feasible such as welding or doing maintenance.
But this is the mine I'm talking about and I dont care how many court desicions you win saying you dont have to wear a hard hat.The minimum 6 man mine rescue team wouldnt even go underground with someone without a hard hat so legally no one can go down without the mine rescue team.
I'm surprised no one has fought the "clean shaven" rule in the oil patch yet.
I guess that's why you dont see any Sihks there. The ol self contained breathing apparatus dont work too good with a beard.

No you misunderstand me. I think that after winning the Knife deal, that possibly they think they can win this one too, I doubt they can, but I bet they think they can.

The boys would wobble or use their right to refuse unsafe work.Working with someone who is a hazard is one in itself to everybody else.

No problem to me. I don't wear the crap, they do.
And if you're referring to my attitude, go f*#k yourself. How’s that for bridging the gap between cultures and races.

Lots came in the 70's here to work in Balmer north and south in Sparwood. My neighbor was the last guy out of B. north, set the charge that sealed the hole on south eastern BC's last underground coal mine.
They had no choice because no job and you go back to your country. So they compromised and cut down the turbans. Most I know now 30 + years later have ditched the turbans for a crew cut and are retired and playing golf.

This is part of an e-mail I recieved. It about sums up my feelings on the immigration issue! I HAVE CHANGED 'AUSTRALIA' to 'CANADA" but otherwise the wording is as it was printed in the newspaper. I could not have said it better myself!
After Sydney not wanting to offend other cultures by putting up Christmas lights.
After hearing that the State of South Australia changed its opinion and let a Muslim woman have her picture on her drivers licence with her face covered.
This prompted this editorial written by an Australian citizen.
Published in an Australian newspaper
Three Cheers For Australia!
IMMIGRANTS,NOT CANADIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take it or leave it I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture.
I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge
against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to Canada.
There are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here need to understand.
This idea of Canada being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Canadians we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle.
This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom. We speak mainly ENGLISH (FRENCH), not Spanish,Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese,Japanese,Russian OR ANY OTHER LANGUAGE. Therefore, if you wish to become a part of our society, LEARN THE LANGUAGE!
Most Canadians believe in GOD. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push but fact because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If GOD offends you, then I suggest that you consider another part of the world as your new home, because GOD is part of our culture.
We will accept your beliefs and will not question why, all we ask is that you accept ours and live in peaceful enjoyment with us.
If the Southern Cross offends you, or you don't like"A Fair Go", then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet!
We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and WE REALLY DON'T CARE HOW YOU DID THINGS WHERE YOU CAME FROM! By all means keep your culture but don't force it on others!
This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this.
But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about OUR FLAG, OUR PLEDGE, OUR CHRISTIAN BELIEFS, or OUR WAY OF LIFE, I highly encourage you to take advantage of one other great CANADIAN freedom." THE RIGHT TO LEAVE"!
If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.
Pretty easy really, when you think about it. I figure if we all keep passing this to our friends(and enemies) it will also, sooner or later get back to the complainers, lets all try, please.

Was this Sikh guy familiar with mines?....has he ever walked down a drift?... I woulnd't even think about going underground without a hardhat.
I had the mine's act changed. In 85 I lost my licence for 6 months and had to take a janitor's job untill I got it back. It stated you had to have a licence to drive a rock truck or tracked machine or even a drill in the mine.
The highway traffic act had nothing to do with anything on their property which was 30 square miles in the toolies, the only job you didnt need a drivers for was running a shunt or train.
So I petitioned the minister of mine's as I saw a lot of young kids lose their licence's and then their jobs and families because the law said you had to have a licence.
So now the mine's act or HSRC for mine's in BC says;
Must HAVE or HAVE HAD a valid drivers licence.
That was mine. Have had is the key word.
The union had nothing to do with it.(Ziggy puff's out chest!)
good for you, I'm sure there were (are) flaws in the act that will be changed accordingly. don't know why the highway traffic act would of been used underground or in a pit in the first place though.
you needed a license to drill? shit they gave me a jackleg on the first day of training!

I swapped a guy my kenworth for a d 10 but even tracks were considered mobile so. So it was off to the plant for me.
