Sex slavery in Canada, how to stop it.
Canada is a source, transit, and destination country for men, women, and children trafficked for the purposes of labor and sexual exploitation. In 2004, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) estimated that 600-800 persons are trafficked into Canada annually and that additional 1,500-2,200 persons are trafficked through Canada into the United States. Women and children are trafficked from Africa, Central and South America, Eastern Europe, and Asia for sexual exploitation. Most trafficking victims have been identified from source countries in Asia including South Korea, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Vietnam. On a much lower scale, men, women, and children are trafficked for forced labor. Some Canadian girls and women are trafficked internally for commercial sexual exploitation. - U.S. State Dept Trafficking in Persons Report, June, 2006 [full country report]
Sex slavery stems from bad immigration laws, which I think we all agree needs to be fixed in Canada.
But how do you stop such a horrible crime as Human Trafficking & Modern-day Slavery in Canada. What can Canada do?
Canada will not do anything substantial anymore than the UK will because to truly stop sex slavery you have to stop the immigration that allows the traffickers and their victims to enter a country. Here we have the people from eastern Europe coming in and selling young girls and boys and no one wants to really stop it because it means singling out certain people and no one can stand to do that no matter how much practical sense it should make.
its horrible. i got the heebiejeebies reading your post
WTF Trillium? In the other thread, you're easy solution to prostitution was to legalize it. A great number also came out in support of that.
Wouldn't legalization simply make this all go away?

Thats why the escort business in Canada is booming, prostitution will never be legalized because no one wants the problem in their backyard

Legal prostitution deal with "legal" Canadian citizens who choose to sell their bodies to make a living.
It's the oldest profession in the world, and it never go away.
How is that anything anywhere close to bringing in a 12 year old girl into Canada to sell for sex? That's is just sick to even compare the too.
Canada passed laws recently, that if a Canadian citizen travels overseas to seek child prostitutes and is arrested, even when he returns from his trip he will face Canadian justice.
Personally, these child rapist.. chop it off.
...and here is the knife I would use. Rusty Old Knife.
We need stronger laws in Canada and better safe guards. The smuggling of people is more of an immigration problem as they are also used as forced labor. Maids, Factories, Shops, Sex Slaves.. etc.

Very insightful observation!
Trillium: What was you're stance on raising the age of consent then? Combining legal prostitution and a low age of consent sets the ground work for a pedophile sex industry, especially when you combine that with a ineffective justice system.
There are a number of 14 year old drug addict prostitutes that no one can help, including their parents because putting them in mandatory rehab is against their civil rights.

ridenrain : Well I never said anything about age of consent.
"14 year old drug addict prostitutes," juvenile detention comes to mind, with a counselor to help here through getting clean.
Personally, I am sad to see anyone living on the streets, sometimes when possible, I go into a corner store and bring them out a sandwich and soda.
No sense on giving them money, it will just go to their habit, if they have one.
Regardless, age of consent should be raised. I think we have to many young teens getting pregnant, that should still be in school, and to many perverts chasing after innocent teens because they are generally naive to the world around them. (an easy mark)
Look, there is a fine line between legal prostitution to deal with scenes of scores of girl on a street corner... take it inside, clean up the streets and provide a safer environment, and under age drug addicted teens hookers, which is an entirely different problem.

That problem has been around for a very long time and it won't go away anytime soon.

Can't force them to do things against their will because that violates their rights, even their right to be an underage crack whore. Can't charge them because judges and progressive thinking folks view this as a "lifestyle choice".
We just had a thread about a dad who murdered a pusher/pimp boyfriend to save his daughter and most people came out condemming the dad.
We agree that these girls/women definately need help but I don't think legitimizing the vehicle of their addiction is the way to do it.

Don't fight it to hard riden......you'll never get a date.
...but you do actually have venture outdoors for that.
Yup. child prostitution is a big funny joke.

There's no limit to the number of vermin I'd be willing to dispense with to rescue my daughter from such a circumstance. So far as this man is concerned I only regret that he got caught.
He performed a community service by ridding society of a beast who predated on children.
