Well I was just watching some of the United States basketball team and man do they suck. So far the US only has 1 gold medal, and I'm starting to wonder if this will be the year that the US really sucks and wins very little gold medals. Well, that is just my random comments. I'm American so it pisses me off, but what are you going to do. Guess the rest of the world is hellbent on blowing the US out of the water this year...

Also, I don't just mean in the basketball area, cause I've seen the US in other fields and it just seems like they have lost whatever great skill they had.

U.S.A..They just got there asses handed to them By South Africa in the mans 4x100 freestyle relay
And after they said they would crush Australia (and therefore everyone else) like a cheep gaiter.

See if you guys would lock yourselves in a small and filthy office with a carton of Marlboros and a couple boxes of Fort Garry, this wouldn't distress you so much.

Aren't the Olympics suppossed to be about the competition itself and achieving personal bests as much as who wins or loses? Hands, health, heart and head? No, wait...that's 4H. The Olympics are about greed and sponsorship. No...that's NASCAR. Drugs and the bizarre results that occur as a result? No...Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas or Naked Lunch. International politics? Wait, that's what the UN is for.

I guess the Olympics are just about misplaced disappointment then...

 I really don't see how that was needed....

I do...you're putting way too much emphasis on winning. The spirit of the games is supposed to be about the competition and building bridges between nations.

“We will break them like a cheep gaiter”

That’s what team USA said I think that they set themselves up to me bashed with talk like that.
I have competed for my city my province and in a very modest way for my country.
I have been taught that you have to have respect for your opponent but not too much.
You should never bad mouth them it only diminishes your victory should you win.
And you look like an idiot if you lose.

Yeah, and I've seen nothing but the US treating their opponents with the most respect, even when the US dream team was beat they still came together with their opponent. Want to know who was really treating the US shitty? The Italians in one of the mens volleyball tournaments. I don't know Italian, but I'm pretty sure when an Italian team is saying Fuck you after the game to the US players, it's doesn't mean they want to be friends.

Also, I understand this is about good-hearted competition, and I would like to know who said that the US team was going to "break them like a cheep gaiter"? You all do know that the US teem is made up of hundreds of athletes and players. I can't imagine that that was an official statement released by the whole US team after all the talk the US has given on being respectful of the world climate. Wanna talk about disrespect, look as far as Iran. I see nothing bad in going for your team and feeling disappointed when they don't win, I mean I am American and they represent my country. Since when, in modern times, has it been so hateful and bad to go for your home country?

Oh, and about building bridges, I think you should be looking at other countries like Iran who are the team that is mostly burning bridges with the international community(one of their judo people would not compete against anyone from Israel because of what Israel does to palestine). So far, from what I have seen, the US team has been respectful and competed with honour against other countries. Have you even watched much of the Olympics Rev_Blair?

My original post was just basically that I think the US is doing horrible as far as performance, because they said that they expected to win 100 golds, and so far, from what I have read, they only have 1, and their basketball team has not done so good either. It was not about them treating others like shit and hating other countries. Don't you all want to see Canadians win over others when you watch a match? When they lose there's nothing you can do but say "oh well, the other guy was better, maybe they will win another one."

You of course are right the whole point of the Olympic is to have a Friendly competition.
However in this case it was one of the actual swimmers on the American mans 4x100 team that shot off his mouth. And in that context I was saying they deserve to get beaten.
If the Italian player did what you said and I have no reason to suspect that you are laying well the same to him, I hope they get there heads handed to then next time.
I am NOT anti American I am anti idiot.

Well I don't see why one player should shape your whole opinion, you know. If that one American said what you said he did, then he deserved to get served what he got served, but I really wouldn't let one person shape a whole point of view of the United States in the olympics, because I've seen other American players who have been very respectful.

Ralph @ Sun Aug 15, 2004 7:19 pm

"Well I don't see why one player should shape your whole opinion,"

Will you please show me where I stated that the whole American team should be put down?

What I was referring to was a team on which one person made a statement and no one else on that team refuted it.

They deserve to get there ass kicked for there lack of good sportsmanship towards their fellow athletes, showing them no respect.

NOT THE WHOLE AMERICAN TEAM JUST THE MANS 4X100

Johnnybgoodaaaaa @ Sun Aug 15, 2004 7:47 pm

Guess I read your second post wrong. I was basically still replying to when you said, "That’s what team USA said I think that they set themselves up to me bashed with talk like that."

It was my mistake though.

Ralph @ Sun Aug 15, 2004 7:56 pm

No trouble shit happens.
Whenever anyone talks like that it pisses me off.

I know I know that is just trash talking and its is what young athletes do now but I just can’t help it I hate it.

And IT IS NOT ONLY THE USA that does this.

It, as it happens was just what I saw on this particular day at this particular event by these guys.
