There was no small amount of debate about the name, and the decision was that it properly conveyed the goals of the site. Those include bilingualism(something we are still struggling with) and the idea that a revolution is required to maintain our country's sovereignty. "Vive la Revolution", and "vive le difference" are also called to mind.

   

I guess "Vive le Canada Libre" would have been too long???

His actual intent remains debated to this day (i.e. it may not have been to stir up the Separatists even if everyone got a jolt out of this including Pearson that responded that "Canadians do not need to be liberated" - interesting with hindsight for the Canadian Sovereignists! De Gaule had to cut short his trip)
