You should be able to find the information or a link to the information you want at Wal-Town

Don't worry so much about changing people's outlooks. Even the son of god had a hard time doing that and he was performing miracles (I'm thinking of the rich man who wanted to enter the kingdom of heaven). I am not a christian but I do agree with the 'plank in one's eye' theory, unless you are homeless on the street everybody in our society is doing some damage. Congratulations on being aware enough not to support Wal-Mart, but do a little more searching on the internet and you'll find that Wal-Mart is a mere symptom of the problem. A simple "because I choose not to" is sufficient.

Get pictures of sweat shop workers, and well let's say its a child, say "What makes this child more valuable than a Canadian child? This child works more in his/her first decade than you will in your whole life! How dare Wal-Mart do this; HOW DARE THEY! These people are clinically insane! These people are Criminals!" (Okay I stole that from Helen Caldicott and her Anti-War speech from the Passionate Eye, but it works in all situations).

Dezzy, welcome!!!

And I wouldn't listen to Marcarc on this one (no offense, Marcarc). Maybe just keep in mind that people don't LIKE hearing about sweatshops. Just say "for $5 more, I'll buy a shirt that some poor 15 year old girl didn't die for". That's especially effective if the people you talk to have children that age.

Also remember that, like Calumny mentioned, Walmart isn't really the problem. It's just one of many symptoms. However, it's also a symbol, and a symbolic boycott can affect the entire structure that allows Walmarts to thrive.

Thanks for the insights...I'm finding a ton of good info online! Already got my co-worker finding alternative places to Wal-Mart! Yippee!

BTW...out of curiousity...what do the timbit, hoser, canuck, etc. designations mean?
BTW...out of curiousity...what do the timbit, hoser, canuck, etc. designations mean?
They're just silly ranks showing how many posts a person has made in the forums. Purely for fun, which is part of why they don't really make much sense.

Is Walmart really any cheaper? I never found that to be the case. I used to shop there but not since learning of their corporate behaviour and not since finding $0 savings.
When I tell people that I do not shop at Walmart, my reason has always been, "because Zeller's has the same prices/products and they're Canadian". The Canadian part is no longer true but I've found no other alternative chain store that is Canadian, so continue to shop at Zeller's
What they do is hook you with their cheapest item almost always posted in the aisles. That is done to whet your buying appetite. Once you walk further into the inventory aisle for that type of item the prices are quite often higher than other stores.

It's remains 'bend over and smile...'

I never went to a Wal-Mart, I hope they won't sucess here but it seems to work for them. They failed in France, Carrefour is too strong.

Wal-Mart kills small businesses, under pay illegal immigrants (3$US/hour) and other employees called associates !

I wonder how many lawyers they have, to be protected from all the pursuits.
