i graduate highschool this summer, and i want to get a criminology degree so i can get payed more and know more about what im doing when i become a cop. i want to get my degree in Saskatchewan or Alberta (preferrably Calgary) but the problem is i cant find a college or university that offers criminology as a ba in either province. i saw that there is sociology, but idk if it is relevant enough to the point where i can get payed better as a police officer. I'm sure that there are some other degrees that are offered that are similar to criminology, but i dont know them. so if anybody could help me out with this i'd appreciate it. i thought of being rcmp too but i decided that id prefer living in an urban area rather than a rural area, and im probably too short anyways, cuz i think you have to be a certain height for rcmp. anyways id appreciate any help i could get.

The only one I know of is way out east here in PEI. But I can say with some confidence that no matter where you start, education is not gonna have much impact on your pay. A constable is a constable is a constable.

Is going to? Sure it will. And it might even open up more doors for him in the future. I don't think you can ever go wrong with more education (especially if you can afford it). I don't know about Alberta, but I think BC does have alot of criminolgy degrees.

I wish you luck with your career choice. PDT_Armataz_01_34

Easiest way to start is to check with your local PD. They can probably sterr you in the right direction. Same goes for the RCMP. If you try for the Mounties, be prepared for some rigiourous physical tests and extensive background checks.

You don't need a degree in Crim to become a cop. Though, it helps. I can't help you with Universities in SK or AB. I did a quick check and all of the major ones don't have a Crim program (which is surprising). If you're willing to go a little further west, most of the major universities (except UBC)here in BC offer degrees in Crim. I know SFU does as does the university I go to (shameless plug alert) which is UCFV.

ty canucker, infact i've already applied to simon fraser U and university college of the fraser valley which would be nice to get into since abbotsford is close to vancouver and burnaby is in the GVA, my dad said he'd get me season tickets to the nhl team of the city i go to college at, so those universities would great. but i'd rather find a place nearer to Calgary where i got lots of cousins and relatives, (plus im a big flames fan)

Wow, then Vancouver would be out of the question. There are at least 3,000 people on a waiting list for season tickets to the Canucks here. I have season tickets to the WHL which is great hockey, and much cheaper. :D

UCFV isn't hard hard to get into. Why do you think I applied there? I don't know about the Crim program though. It's a popular program, but I'm sure there's always room. If you do end up at UCFV, I just might end up giving you a tour of the campus (I've done new student orientation the last two years).

One thing though. Our pub/restaurant doesn't have very good beer. Something the beer drinkers on campus (which would be everyone) are trying to change.

And don't sweat the application essay. It's only 2 double-saced pages.

Have you checked into Athabasca University? I see they have a Crim degreee program.
