I doubt that, since she can't vote in our elections.
Also, I don't think citizenship is automatic.
The only thing she needs to do, is fill out a form and pay the fees.
So there's more to it than just being married to a Canadian citizen.
Like? She doesn't have to take the test after 1085 days being physically in Canada. And that is all it takes for a Permanent Resident. I assume he sponsored her, and she is PR already.

being married to a canadian citzen doesnt make you Canadian...you have to apply for citizenship
Fill out a form and pay, yes. Getting the actual visa to becoming PR is way harder though.
for some people apparently it is difficult...
who said that... ? just because you marry a canadian doesnt autmatically make you canadian... my niece married an american.. he is not canadian..he is having problems getting the process started.. and it costs lots... funny thing is my father was british.. I had no problem getting a British Passport..

Brenda...
You started off by saying that if the husband takes out citizenship then the wife is automatically Canadian too. Then you said you just needed to be married to a Canadian. Now you're saying you need to fill out a form and pay a fee.
As I said.. a woman doesn't automatically become a citizen just because her husband is.
Ok, let me get this really straight, so even you can understand it.
If the spouse is a Canadian citizen, the other spouse does not have to go through the process of taking the test, or waiting 1085 days to be able to become a Canadian citizen. All the "not Canadian citizen" has to do, is inform the authorities he/she wants to become a citizen, and pay the fee that comes with that. To me, that means automatically. Whenever the PR becomes a citizen, s/he can apply for a passport, and vote.
Clear now?

He needs a visa to be able to live and work in Canada.
If I become a citizen (as a PR), my husband can apply for his citizenship, without taking the test. He will stay Dutch too, while I lose my Dutch citizenship the day I become a Canadian citizen.
dont think it works that way.... like i say my brother inlaw is having trouble with the process...

That's not what "automatically" means, Brenda.
Whatever Lily.

Because Holland doesn't allow it for her citizens.
