BossDog for Hockey Fan Medal.....
Bossdog Bossdog:
would be interested to know that I watch grainy 28 kbps internet feeds of afternoon playoff games via the internet (hooked up to my TV). Shitty quality and tons of buffering but at least it's hockey!
That is hardcore fan...
I actually thought about doing a video for the Stanley Cup Fan contest on CBC but I doubt Mark Messier would deliver the Cup to my front door in Bosnia!
I may be able to get some Canadian beer when I move to Sarajevo next week. Worse case scenario, I'll be able to by some yankee brew but either way, play off games with Croatian beer just ain't the same!
Thanks for the nomination btw!
Eh.... your welcome... Good luck with your move.
Hmm. Wow.
I've seen him around the Hockey Forum every so often, contributing things worth while.
So I'll 2nd.
Any takers....????
Third.
Fourth.
You want hardcore...how about getting up at 3 am in Taiwan to listen over the telephone to the 2002 Olympic Gold Medal game between Canada and the USA. Then dropping everything to watch a tape of it two weeks later, even though I already know the outcome.

I was teaching English in Taiwan, and not a single bar in town could be convinced/bribed/coerced into staying open and broadcasting the game (might have been on satellite but we weren't sure), and most Taiwanese aren't interested in hockey anymore than most Canadians are interested in cricket, so it wasn't on regular TV at all.
A bunch of us hoped that CBC (or someone else) would webcast it, so we all got up early and ran down to the room with the computer hooked up to the Internet and searched and searched for a feed, any feed. By the time we found out that it wasn't being webcast, the 1st period was over!
So I called my buddy, who I knew was watching it in Edmonton. and told him to put the phone next to the TV speaker. Myself and three or four other Canucks were hunched around the phone and cheered the hits/goals/etc for the next two hours. Everytime we scored, we woke up the American teachers in our building and they screamed at us to shut up. We went through 3 phone cards listening to the game (and I had to run to 7/11 at 4 in the morning to buy a new one for the third period).
After the game, I told my buddy to tape the re-broadcast later that night. He then mailed it to me airmail and when it arrived, everyone came by to watch it. The 3 or 4 yanks in our building were outnumbered by the 15 - 20 Canucks and they left after watching a few minutes. We watched it, even though we all knew the outcome and cheered at every hit/goal again.
I might not have been in Canada for it, but the whole thing still stands out to me. I may not have liked teaching in Taiwan, but that game stands out as one of the best moments in my life up to that point.
Bossdog gets my vote too.
