now...again....what were you saying about "no srew ups"?
If you can't read what I've already posted then you've got a problem.
You've posted that they didn't screw up....yet the RCMP have stated that they DID screw up and have apologised....... No comments?
Read what I've already posted.

I hadn't really watched the video. But I think it was excessive to arrest the guy. But when like 30 people start chanting cops suck around you and you are completely surrounded, you probably aren't going to feel to good about the situation. Especially when someone tries to attack you from behind. The arrest was unnecessary, and the first spray was probably to immobilize the guy so he couldn't be hit from behind, after that it was basic instinct to try to get everyone away. Not saying it was right, but it is understandable.
It's understandable, but he's already a total fool for not seeing the situation and feeling he mood of the group. This wasn't Snidly Whiplash, driving to doom with helpless kids in the back and he should have recognised that justice really wasn't going to be served by trying to take this guy in.
Even streamlined, high speed RCMP who get sent to crappy little towns need to remember that they are not Dirty Harry , but Andy Griffin, and they need to get allong with the people, not dominate them.
Cops are people and we all make mistakes but I would rather have seen the more experienced police take control of the situation, stop the truck parade, hand out a ticket, and leave with smiiles and a little more respect than the bad taste of pepper in everyones mouths.
It looks as though an officer made a request, people got ignorant and then got pepper-sprayed. Moral of the story, don't be fucking ignorant. Seems pretty simple, yet it happens all the time. I feel sorry for the officer who has to put up with people's stupid bullshit day in and day out. I have no sympathy for those who thought it a good idea to make jackasses of themselves. Pepper spray is the least they should get, hopefully they'll learn from this experience. But I doubt it.

well if memory serves me correctly you thought a handcuffed, drunk, stilletto wearing christin wilson got what she deserved(a cut lip, broken teeth, concussion as well as multiple abrasions) for doing nothing more than telling a cop "fuck you"

I don't make the laws, I just abide by them. Maybe if she had done the same, she would be slightly less ugly today.

saying "fuck you" to a cop doesnt warrant the damage he did to her....a cop that can handle that is not fit for the job..i've got this feeling if he put a bullet in her head you'd still be his cheerleader...and keep in mind too the money she sues for comes out of the publics pocket...she may be a bit uglier but will come out a lot richer

Yes, because that's all she did. She complied in every respect except for muttering "fuck you". That sounds plausible. Unfortunately, you're probably right, she'll sue, the blooding heart justice system will award her a healthy sum to go away and that will be the end of that. Far be it for her to admit that she was in the wrong, it must have been the cops fault she was breaking the law and then resisting....oh wait, my bad, she was walking down the street, minding her own business when this cop jumped her and head stunned her, all for no good reason. Perhaps a "fuck you" had been uttered, but most assuredly it was from the cop, because Ms. Wilson is such an upstanding pillar of the community that she would never be caught swearing at an officer or breaking the law. Perish the thought.
Seeing as we don't know her personally, we can't pass judgement on whrther or not she was a pillar of the community.

How was she breaking the law and how was she resisting? If I saw my my spouse or friend being hassled by the cops for no apparent reason I'd get in his face too. In Canada we have the right to question the actions of our police. This isn't a third world dictatorship.
Face it, there are some cops that have cowboy attitudes. I worked in the RCMP holding cells when I was up north teaching and while most of the guys were great, there was one yahoo that always got confrontational and created a situation that could have otherwise been avoided. Every profession has their share of assholes, and this one cop who over reacted seems to be one of them. I was also a member of a naval landing and boarding party for two years, and yes we had one or two members that had attitudes, but they were soon reassigned.

from what i can gather she wasnt a pillar of society..nor was she carla homolka...just a drunk exuberant sports fan..she still a lady and shouldnt be hit by a man while shes handcuffed and clearly no threat..and when she gets her face marred like that why shouldnt she be awarded damages?..as i said in a few posts back when cops screw up its because theyre 1)lazy,2)scared,3)distracted,4)angry or 5)greedy..and when they do screw up they should lose their jobs...theres many ppl out there that can do that job without ever screwing up..and ive had 2 members of my family that had an entire career with the rcmp..retired without ever screwing up..as well as 95% of other cops..but since you feel police brutality is most exceptable be thankful you dont live in my province where 2 members of the saskatoon police got fired and thrown in jail for taking a native(darryl knight) outside of the city to leave him 20 below weather..and 2 others got only fired for causing the death of a native the very same way back in 1990..i'm not anti-cop...i'm anti-incompetent cop..and whatever happens to them when they screw up..even if they get shot..sorry i have no sympathy whatsoever

Well I think comparing someone being maced to someone being killed is completely ridiculous. The 2 dont even compare! As for the dead person... A loss of human life is horrible in all circumstances. However,It depends on the situation, if this was a known gang affiliate or maybe someone convicted of some type of (Extremely Violent) crime then I couldnt care less about that person.
But like you said, there are some incompetent cops out there Im not argueing that. But this RCMP officer is not. I have seen first hand the spin these type of people use to promote their side and I hope that none of you will ever see it or have it used against you.
My community has gone through hell and nothing happens... One angry native person is maced in self defense and everyone screams police brutality. The illusion of the "Herioc Underdog" has been greatly exaggerated in movies to be the loveable people/characters. In the real world however the opposite is usualy true.
I personaly blame hollywood for all of this bulls**t.
ok..fine thats your opinion which you are very well entitled to...just on a personal level i do not find a woman holding a child with only one arm raised a perceived threat when i'm armed right to the teeth..we see these confrontations all the time on the news where the crowd is hostile towards police but how often does it actually happen when a cops is assaulted? its doubtful a woman is going to assault a police officer when shes holding her child...but lets just see how it plays out on the news
Well she had her arm raised to hit... That is more then enough of a threat. but anyways I am also interested to see how this plays out in the news.

Alan Chad, an expert in combat and tactics who teaches police SWAT teams and military forces around the world, said the police officer was wrong to use the spray.
He said the officers on the scene should have gauged that a crowd full of children celebrating was not the type to start a riot.
"Let's remember this is a community where there's family involved," Chad told CBC News. "This is not a situation with a mentality of a riot, so it's still an inappropriate use of force.
" 'Pathetic' is the word I'm using."
Chad said talking and negotiating would
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbia/story/2007/07/05/pepper-spray.html?ref=rss
I think that is exactly the point. The officers incited the situation. If the cops had used their brains, wrote a ticket and helped the group continue to celebrate, well no one would even have seen that video.
And everyone would have been happy.
But this is typical...young white hotshots in sunglasses thinking that they are better then the ndns...thinking they have the power to do whatever the fuck they want. Look at their body language in the begining of the video. Like, hiw disrespectful to stand there and talk to the coach with your arms crossed and sunglasses on.
Remove the glasses and uncross your arms, that simple gesture would have immediately changed the situation. Instead of being challanging and disrespectful you can make a friendly point about the safety of the children.
Donny_Brasco Donny_Brasco:
OK, so ya I have a little bias.
Lets look at the facts:
1) Police see kids riding in the back of a truck followed by 20 other cars
2) police stop the youth's victory parade to warn the driver - fair enough
3) "Though the RCMP has helped the band celebrate in the past by blocking roads, an officer with the force was unfamiliar with the 40-year-old tradition and tried to intervene, said RCMP Staff Sgt. Brad Zalys."
4) Watch a demonstration in how not to use effective crowd control...provoke them and arrest the kids head coach.
5) at 2:37:000 watch the officer holding the suspect reach into his pocket for his pepper spray...is the suspect resisting...not in that frame...
6) at 2:37:850 watch the officer spray the suspect - BRUTAL!
7) watch 2:30:000 to 2:39:000 and tell me that man is "resisting". Luckly for you who think he is, you'll probably have a judge and jury tell you your wrong.
8 ) 2:42:000 the same cop turns around and starts spraying the man in oarnge...perhaps he is acting in self defence. However, he is only defending himself because he assulted the suspect.
9) 2:42:631 the same cop turns and sprays the woman in white and her baby, the suspect's wife and step-son.
10) Police Spokeswoman ""The crowd came so close, almost within a foot of them," she said. "Police had to deal with a subject who was combative and at the same time a crowd of 75 angry, hostile, swearing individuals."" Combative? where??????????
I would say that detatchment may have a few "Help Wanted" signs posted in the window soon. What a disgrace.
Let them celebrate. There is a way to insure that they can do it safely and there is a way to provoke confrontation and get yourself fired.
There is a way to handle a crowd, and there is a way to incite one. I hope those cops go to jail. General population for a month or two...
Anyways. Watch it yourself. Sometimes you have to back and re-click the video link to get it to work. The black video box appears immediately when it works.
[Sorry I cant post links because I have under 10 posts]
You cant just make up "Facts" as you go along, sure some of these were true, but the majority of these "Facts" were just personal opinion.
(Fact #3) Firstly this "Fact" is just a quote... secondly it is stating that the "New" officer was just doing things by the book.
(Fact #4) Once again this "Fact" is just pure personal opinion.
(Fact #7) First of all, any type of physical resistance is "resisting" and secondly, once you see the word "probably" in your "Fact" then it automaticaly becomes your personal opinion.
(Fact #8 ) The officer arrested the suspect he didnt "Assault" him. Other then the spraying part everything else is personal opinion.
(Fact #10) "Police had to deal with a subject who was combative and at the same time a crowd of 75 angry, hostile, swearing individuals."
That statement above is the "Fact". Everything else was personal opinion.
The leason learned: You should post real "Facts" when you claim to do so.
