Is there a Toyota that's as sexy as a Corvette Z06 or 2009 Corvette ZR1?

Not if you're over 60

I moved across the Atlantic to get a better job/life.The Canadian dream means sacrifice and hard work.

No disrespect to the CAW guys from Oshawa but in hard times hard decisions have to be made.

Getting $40 an hour for menial work has made the 'Big Three' easy targets for Honda and Toyota.

I'm on career number 3, why should GM employees be any different than us mere mortals?

Adapt and overcome. I had to.

Indeed. Since 2001 I've lost three jobs to offshoring/outsourcing and I can't believe the people who think that they should have a lifetime guarantee of employment as if this were the USSR or France.

GM and the other 2 are done like toast. They've had their chances for many years to fix things up and failed. Why did they bring in gas guzzlers like the Hummer, cadillac SUV the big pick ups,,Ford with their big F-450,,,Dodge trying out their muscle cars,,,what's up with that?? The Hybrids they have introduced is too little too late.
The gas shortage back in the seventies should have been a wake up call for them but they continued to ignore the situation. Then along come Toyota, honda, Mazda and a bunch of others with their fuel efficient cars. It took a few years for them to come up and compete with the BIG 3 , but succeeded nonetheless.
And to think of the thousands of people whose jobs are hanging by a thread by their employers who failed to wake up during the hard times.
The BIG 3 have had it too good for years and 30 billion will just be a band aid solution for a few years,,then what happens if they cannot turn this around? For certain they will be back for more,,might as well take that money and throw it in a deep well because you'll never get to see it again.

I think NAFTA and Globalization have a lot to do with all this.

It's hard for Canadian companies to compete against companies making cars in Mexico and paying employees $5 a day.

And here I thought it was bad when the forest industry was hard hit but now it's Ontario. OMG! That's awfull...We need to throw money at this immediately.
(sarcasm off)

yawn.
Don't worry. The premier of Ontario and the mayor of Toronto will hire them all and send the bill to Ottawa.

oh boy, why don't we just let the Big 3 burn? We could put the 30 billions in the pockets of the workers, and build a new industry around not fucking up.

Only a top-notch, fiscally prudent government would support a dead industry with 30 billion dollars. And why? To keep lights on? What am i missing here?

Well that's highly debatable. If our workers are so much better educated, skilled, etc, then the fact we pay them higher wages doesn't matter. They deserve higher wages, because they are more productive.

The problem, it appears, is that there is just a general decline in demand for the types of cars being produced in Canada and the US. Unless and until the industry adapts - see Japanese cars of the 1970s as an example - it will slowly rot.

But it's not globalization's fault - and we are in the world for better or for worse, anyway.
