I camp a few times a year at Darlington Provincial Park. It's not too far from the city, but not too close either. Near Bowmanville off the 401. Great place to camp.

I went to Darlington Park a few years ago, on my birthday. We had a site right next to the water, and there was so much fog on Lake Ontario that you could only see a couple of feet past the shore. It was a wall of fog. I wasn't even sure if we were on Lake Ontario until the fog cleared the next morning.

Darlington Park... how close is that to the nuclear power plant? :?

What do you think was causing the fog? :wink: One of the best diving places here, in southern Taiwan, is in the effluent from the nuclear reactor in Kenting national Park. The warm water attracts all sorts of marine life.....including sea snakes.

Dying to try Killbear, heard lots of great things from many people about how its "the best".

Unfortuantely, my friends are mostly exclusive to cottage or even luxury cottage "camping" and the number of people willing to put up a tent are few around here. Its been a few years since I've been able to do real camping, but I miss it dearly.

There's 1000s and 1000s of acres of Crown Land. Why would anyone ever pay to camp at a park? Get a map, drop a boat and go.

Honest questions:
1)can you camp anywhere on crown land?
2)can you camp anywhere on crown land without risking getting shot by a hunter?
3)where can you find maps that indicate crown land?

1) yes, unless otherwise posted;
2) LOL! If you make the effort to camp where I go, off the beaten track, you're VERY unlikely to see anyone, hunter or otherwise. But if that's a legitimate concern, go when hunting's not in season.;
3) in Ontario, any MNR office

good to hear, cuz the last thing I want to do is die while taking a crap in the woods because some drunk hunter heard a fart and thought it was a moose call!

A little too close. Like, fifteen minutes up the road.

In my case, it was because we were going to Wonderland the next day and it was cheaper than a hotel. But otherwise, most car camping places are not worth the stay. I much prefer camping on crown land.

All the times I have been to Darlington, I have never seen thick fog. What time of the year was this fog?

Two years ago when I was there, I was sitting next to the campfire after dark, and two raccoons came out of the bushes and starting brawling next to my fire. I watched it go down, and they left a few minutes later.

Saw a couple skunks while walking to the washrooms that night too.

Crazy stuff, eh.

I have raccoons and skunks in my back yard every night, and I live in downtown Montreal. There are more of them per square kilometer in urban areas than in the country.

I had a skunk wander into my house after the cat left the door open. The skunk ate all the cat food in the kitchen, explored the bathroom and living room, rummaged through my purse, and left with a pack of stolen cherry Lifesavers in his mouth. Cute little thing. I had to patiently wait until it was good and ready to waddle off....can't very well chase it off with a broom. Well, you can, but you'll regret it.
