I myself happen to originally be from the Kingston/Napanee Area and have lived in most of the towns between the two. So are there any current or past residents of the Limestone City hanging around?

I lived there for 9 years. I just left last June.

Now that Lino's is gone, there isn't much point in going back. Although the Cataraqui Centre got a Moxies. That restaurant kicks ass.

Cat Centre is great, but the Kingston Centre was demolished eh?

Yep, not it's one of those idiotic 'outdoor malls', not to mention the Cat Centre itself is more and more becoming like every single mall in Toronto, it used to be a unique, nice little place.

My first couple of jobs were in Napanee, at the Gulf station just north of the 401 and with McBride's in the east end, building crates in the hop, then houses all the way from Deseronto to Odessa. I lived in Kingston when I was in college, when? I won't say, because people keep reminding me that I'm an old fart whenever I mention a date.

It's all in all a great area, but I think that the Gateway to the 1000 Islands gets overlooked a lot because of it's unimportant location between Toronto, Ottawa, and Montréal.

Oh, and that Gulf station you mentioned is a Flying J's Truck Stop now.

I think it's all the prisons.

Naw, what really killed Kingston was the 401. Before that the fastest route to Montréal was the old number 2 highway, but after the 401 bypassed the majority of Kingston, the only memories most travellers have nowadays is of the fast food restaurants bordering the 401's off ramps.

I was born in Kingston, but it's in northeastern Pennsylvania, not in Ontartio. :P

The Kingston Centre is gone? I remember it used to have a kick-ass arcade in it, along with one of the few remaining Jumbo Videos in it. What about the Canadian Tire and Loblaws in the same area? Are they still there?

Speaking of "is it still there", the store that's on the northeasterly corner of Sir John and Princess that looks like it should be an awesome bar or restaurant but is in actuality a paint store (I believe), is that still there too?

And the Welly? Tell me the Wellington Pub is still there!

Moogle @ Mon Feb 20, 2006 8:46 pm

That paint store is still there (if I remember correctly), unfortunately I was just visiting the downtown core briefly. Jumbo Video's still there, but it's not connected to the mall anymore. The one over at the end of Gardner's Road is still up and running, too bad there's no Bellamy's anymore.

I am not from Kingston but I love the thousand Islands.
I could ride the Island Princess all day. Gananoque is lovely too. Boldt Castle was so romantic. Then there are the fantasy suites at the Fire Side Inn! Susy Wong room please!

:D

But have lived most of my life in the Trenton area. Still make a trip to Kingston two or three times a year.

I moved to Kingston after retiring from the old lickboo (LCBO) in Toronto. Toronto is a nice place to be from. Took me thirty years to get out. Fell in love with Kingston in the early seventies while staying at the Pinecrest Resort. Toronto is a place worth leaving. [B-o]

In the last couple of years the Kingston Centre has changed dramatically. They tore down the mall in favour of a box style shopping centre. The old Canadian Tire is there but lookin kinda said next to the new buildings. There is still a Jumbo, Loblaws, Pharma Plus, The Source and a couple of banks. Really they have ruined the place. :(
