$1:
The Prairie Spirit School Board in Saskatchewan is cutting dozens of classroom jobs.

Fourteen teaching positions are being eliminated through attrition while 60 educational assistants are being cut using a mix
of attrition and layoffs.

Education Minister Don Morgan says the board ought to look elsewhere for savings, rather than cut classroom staff.

You'll notice that it's front line positions and programs that get cut first, rather than administrative positions. In the end, students suffer because it's the EAs and teachers who deliver their education. It's the administrative positions that have the least impact on the students education, and who have the highest salaries, that are unscathed.

But it's the administrative types that make the downsizing decisions. :(

I worked long enough at that government ministry to know a whole lotta people there could never show up for work again, and no one would notice.

...and they'd still get paid every month and they'd be entitled to a pension at retirement.
