How about we ship all the white people to mexico every winter.

Wait, we already do. Nevermind.
Am I sensing issues with white people from your general direction?

Arn't all reserves self governing? If i'm mistaken then something is wrong with this country... reserves shouldn't have to deal with alot of provincial interference they should deal straight with the federal government if that is their wish, we've screwed the first nations over long enough...

K- Name one way voting for Harper will improve your life, personally.

One thing tangent. Will you get a better job? Will you pay less taxes? Will you be able to get an MRI faster? Will you be able to start a business or benifit from a new tax loophole?

Getting a job? Nope it's my responsibility to better myself. Less tax? Yup right off the bat we get lower GST. Faster MRI? I'll do you one better, I think we'll get better health care service all around. Not right away mind you, but he' promised to actually do something. As far as new business, well Steven Harper did make some announcements the other day about helping people start new business so maybe. There will be benefits for everyone, including the native people. Not to mention the big one, no more liberal corruption.

Would it be possible to divide the Northen pottions of the Prarie provinces into states which are run on one citizen one vote, but which give aboriginal peoples majority rule, but permit local non-aboriginals to participate.

Such boundries would be based on treaties, locations of present reserves, and the population data.

Why the north? The better land is in the south and there are reserves in the southern parts of the provinces as well.

Well the south would have states, There was more settlement in the south so that means there are more areas where aboriginal peoples are in the minority. The idea is to give self rule, without peing prejudicial.

Better Land? not necessarily. We have a longer growing season, but the further north the days get longer and there is more heat units. This effect the use of agricultural land. As well as you go further north you enter forrests, this means that lumber, pulp and paper(mabey not at the moment, and the logging to supply these industries is more importaint. In addition mining varries ie. uranium is exclusivly in the north, potash in the south.

While non aborigianls would be in the minority in the north and aboriginals in the minority ion the south. The unique climate, resorces, and traditions would result in a cetrain amount of acculturation between all peoples of a region.

I hope that a system can be created that can allow for the preservation of first nations cultures, deal with aboriginal issues, yet at the same time deal with non-aborigianl issues and unite people on what we have in common.

Well I bought a new car last year, had I waited the savings would have been more than a few pennies, and when I decide to buy a house, the savings will be far more than a few pennies.

I think up north would be fine, its great for hunting, just to live in the deep-woods, is totally great by me. Even thou I cant hit a side of a barn, even if im inside.

flatlander @ Sun Jan 14, 2007 9:38 am

Or better yet, why not EVERYONE (whether they're white, brown, purple, or green) work together to make the whole freakin' province better as a whole?
I've heard that First Nations will be getting close to being half the population in the next 10-20 years...why create a seperate (segregate?) state when you can have so much say in the existing power structure? If the issue is lack of representation, then shouldn't the solution be for First Nations to represent themselves at the polls? Shouldn't there be more First Nations politicians?
I understand that I'm being somewhat simplistic; I'm just saying that a First Nation state could be achieved (in a sense) by becoming active in the existing power structure.

thefactremains @ Sun Jan 14, 2007 9:51 am

Hmmm, I don't know. All politicians have an agenda, if they fit the 'normal' views, they could very well get in. I for myself think its getting their. And i'm all for that. If its agood agenda, they get voted in, if its a bad agenda, they don't get voted in.
