Rev Blair made a suggestion once (back in the day) - Sask. and Man. should unite into one mega province. With Alberta/BC ascendent and "The East" as huge as ever, this might be a good idea. In simple terms, a prairie voting block with a severe streamlining of gov't. I'd even include NW Ont. in this.
Thoughts and suggestions?
Yes, what to do with Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut?
What good would uniting Sask and Manitoba into one mega province do?
lol
They still wouldn't have enough seats to make anyone worried. That's the problem. I'd like to see BC holding back some taxes. That would wake them up.
I'm in!!
Hey Regina - cool. We'd need you to hold a port for us in T-Bay anyway.
What good would it do? As far as number of seats, probably not much initially. I'm thinking more in terms of services and economics in the sense that we'd have less government, shared services, and more to work with to create economic wealth. Create more wealth, more people move in to work. More people move in to work, more seats in the house.
Brenda, I'd even include the territories if they wanted to join.
Saskatchemanitobawanavut?
I always thought northern Ontario should join Manitoba. I remember there was a campaign to do so because they felt they would be better represented.
Flats I was always miffed that the "Western Republic of Canada" hats printed in the 70's didn't include NWO.
Flatlander the name for the united provinces is really hard(Saskatchemanitobawanavut) to spell why not keep it simple and call it and call it SM-WN.
Saskamanayukavutio?
That would *definately* be difficult to put in the back of our NHL Jersies.
Crap - it would also mean the Riders would need a different name.
I've heard NW Ontario feels more western than eastern before as well...perhaps with all the mininng and timber and ag and (ahem) oil, we could get something going for ourselves and not have to worry so much about equalization and all the rest of that? Just floating the boat here...
Sure!! We'll lend you some trees to spruce up the place a bit. No one will recognise the place after we're done.
Nice, Regina. I've seen The Bay. You might wanna keep your trees.
Now for my next question: what would have to happen constitutionally for something like this to happen?
