Hrolfie

North of the Garlic Curtain, eh PJB? I went to junior and senior highschool in Dauphin (Clippers rule, or they used to)and visited Yorkton quite frequently, so I know what it's like to live in a largely Ukrainian culture. can't beat the food though, I'd kill for some perogies(not the saurkraut kind though) and cabbage rolls(definitely not the buckwheat ones) right now.

Small world. Do you know any Villeneuves or Garreaus? My Grandmother taught in Cranberry and The Pas for 30 yrs (retired in the early 70s) and loved it up there. Was up there a few years ago for the Trapper's Festival.

PJB @ Mon Jul 18, 2005 9:16 pm

I know a few Gareau's and a few Villeneuve's..I miss the Festival every once in a while..Worked the trail as a Kinsmen for a few years..Drinking beer at 8 in the morning is a great start to the day..lmao

I worked with a Connie Villeneuve, she's a Cst. with the RCMP. She was in East Timor as part of the Canadian contingent. Mind you, that was over 3 years ago.

PJB @ Mon Jul 18, 2005 9:29 pm

Not sure if I know a Connie..I guess it depends on how old she is..I haven't lived in The Pas for about 8 years so...I went to school with Alex Gareau..He was a year ahead of me I think but I had band with him..Graduated from MBCI in 81..(aging myself).

How did you go from Dauphin to Taiwan?

After serving in the military as Weapons Tech, I attended UVic and got a B.Ed and did some ESL work in Africa. Hooked up with an NGO and began working for them. Went to U of M and got an engineering degree and went back to work for a demining company I had worked with in Africa. Travelled around alot with them, working in different countries where work took me. Current project is cleaning up Kinmen. They are trying to turn the place into a tourist resort and they have no clue what is where, so it's a slow process. My wife gets teaching jobs where ever we go, so everyone is busy.

just like many of the towns in saskatchewan named after body parts, Eyebrow, Elbow, Indian Head, Moose Jaw, and Tits, to list a few.

Blue_Nose @ Mon Nov 21, 2005 4:54 pm

I was about to look up Tits, Saskatchewan, but thought better of it.

Anyone in Saskatchewan up at this hour or anyone awake that can get CBC Saskatchewan Radio 540. Tune in to this mornings season greetings phone in and have a listen to my Dad. He's been the first one to call in for I don't know how many years, in fact I think that there's even been a little competition for the first spot. Stay tuned.
