English in Quebec

The Question is can an english person live in Quebec without speaking or learning french, the short answer is yes in some parts of Quebec. But thats ignorant in my opinion.
Not so fast, since I asked the question I can assure you it does not say "not learn french" I was basing this off of myself hence I wondered if a guy like me could get by with no French comprehension. Don't assume someone like me wouldn't try to learn any.

When my French wife and I were in France in 2000 she thought she was going to her Mecca but was shocked to find the French looked down on her and her "peasent French" whenever she spoke it. We stuck to English because everybody speaks it anyway, just like in Quebec.
If you don't mind me asking, where did you and your wife go in France? I know that "Parisiens" have some type of massive butt plug up their ass when it comes to how your French is spoken.
I got into a verbal fight with a waitress in Paris. I asked for some 'vin', pronounced the way it's suppose to be pronounced. She looked at me, frowned said to me (with that Paris attitude) that I wanted some 'vent' (she pronounced the word vin as in the French word for wind). I told her I didn't want wind, I wanted some wine. Anyway, after a few cheap shots on both sides, she finally got a clue and went to get me a bottle of wine.
A few days later, we went to Dieppe, and to my surprise, they had pretty much the same accent as in many parts of Quebec. I started talking to some people there and they don't have the most respect for the Parisien. And they didn't think wine should sound like wind
Then again, you see the same type of reaction when you go to Quebec City with an Eastern Township accent. They might have the "proper accent" in Quebec (whatever that is), but give them a pencil and a piece of paper and laugh away (I sure do
)

Bodah go meditate will you, the hard liners believe they can force French on all the people in Quebec and it's not going to happen. English at some point will be the Language of Quebec, it's just a matter of time. For christ sake you have language policeeeeeee, what kind of Nation will Quebec want to be Communist because forcing someone to bend to your narrow mined idiology is frankly criminal.
A friend of mine is from France and they mock Quebec because Quebec French is not parisian it's a mixture of Englais Frencais and god knows what. I speak Acadian French and the people from France love my accent.

Actually Scrappy, Acadian French is the one made up of French, English and god knows what, especially the one in New Brunswick.
As for the French from Paris, don't make me laugh - they do think they speak "pure French" - again, must be the butt plug because I've never EVER heard so many anglicism than when I was in Paris (and I thought Quebec was bad). Je vais parker mon car dans le parking pendant que je vais faire du shopping. Yeah, sure, very French

Sorry but in France they say "Je vais stationner mon auto dans le parking." while in Quebec we say "Je vais parker mon char dans le stationnement".

Non non, I swear, I have heard more anglicism in Paris than in Quebec (OK, maybe Montréal is bad, but eh, it's Montréal
In Paris, they go shopping, not magasiner. They parked their car in a parking, not a stationnement (trust me, I almost chocked when I heard some uppidity Parisien say that). First thing I was told at Charles de Gaulles was " ce sont nos cars que nous avons dans le parking"
They use A LOT of English word, but they pronounce it in French - it's actually quite funny and interesting! They call it "sophistiqué", I call it bullshit
I should call one on my friend there and ask him all those funny words they think is so sophisticated
Didn't you say that you were from Témiscamingue? I had relatives in Abitibi, I always though their French accent was awesome

Not only that but Norman French influenced many words in English.
Nearly all langueges are influnced by others and many such as Michief or Afrikaans, or Modern English are a combiation of other langueges.

Some think it is stupid while others may like it. I don't sound as colonial though. Some people speak worse English in England than they do in Canada.

What does it matter Canada is soverign of Britain besides there is no Canadian dielect in the small are of south Central where I live a person in Wood MOuntian has a differnt accent then a person around Laflech where people have a slight French accent to Rockglen where people tend to have an Omaha accent. Colonial Canadian, do you mean Ottawa Valley?

c'mon who's being opress??? If we treated the anglo in Québec like they say that we treated them we would not spent 20% of the province education budget on 8% of the population, and we would not build a Billion dollard hospital for them too.
Ridiculous they are really the most spoiled minority in the world.

well education money and hospitals is nice, what should be done is Quebec should represent the constiturion. Especially as it was implemented by a French Quebecer such as yourself.
Besides I said nothing of the English nor of Anglephones, how do you know I wasn't talking about Galic speeking Irish?
