Lets say sometime in the next 10-20 years (this is not real, of course, just asking for fun) a country (lets not reveal what one, just a 'mysterious/unknown' country invades Canada. Also, lets assume nuclear and biological weapons are not used. What would you do? Here are some options I think. Be creative and make up your own too. And reasons why Canada got invaded in this alternate reality are needed to be thought up at the second, as what I'm doing is a spur of the second type thing.
1) Run away like a coward running away.
2) Fight back.
3) Try diplomacy
4) Something else (say what you would do and try to be creative.)
well,
i think that as a canadian, the canadian thing to do is to try diplomacy first but if that fails then definitely take up arms! i would even encourage non-military people to get a rifle or something.
Id make them come into Canad Via Quebec and let the language Police take care of them,, with all the road signs in French only they'd get lost before they could do any harm..LOL
Some time ago I read a book titled The Last Canadian, written during the dimming days of the cold war by a Canadian. A most interesting read about the trials, tribulations and retaliation of - yup! you guessed it. . .
That's a good book, Karra. Recommended reading.
Fight back . If they're already invading then diplomacy has failed and to continue talking will only make us look weak. After we've shown them we can fight and made them realize that even if they win we'll see to it that they're bled white... then we can consider talking.
And what exactly would you fight back with? Your registered firearms?
Canada would have a lot of allies very quickly if the US was to come after us Karra. I know that it's presently stylish to say that we have no standing on the world stage, but that simply is not true.
Also, the firearms registry would mean little or nothing if it came to arming a resistance. Look around the world...we could have AK-47s and rocket launchers in a week if it came down to it. Deer rifles aren't much good in a war anyway.
We'd have a lot of allies yes but militarily they'd be only be able to help indirectly or in limited way {by sending "advisors" etc} since only the U.S. is capable of sending powerful forces across continents and oceans nowadays. it's no exaggeration to say that the U.S. Navy could easily take on all of the rest of the world's Navys put together so don't be expecting some kind of United Nations D-Day style liberation.
And for what it's worth I'd take a good scoped rifle in something like .300 WM over an automatic rifle if it came down to fighting a guerrila war against a modern army.
If you want to fight a guerilla war with mostly untrained troops, guys like me, the weapon of choice is the AK-47. It's cheap, easy to use, and durable. It may not be the best or most modern weapon out there, but there's a reason why it's so popular...it works even in the hands of a child. Personally I think that's a bad thing, but it's still valid.
As for the US military...they aren't as great as they make themselves out to be. They've got a bad record against guerilla fighters and are overly dependent on technology. If they were cut off from the rest of the world, and I believe if they attacked Canada that would happen pretty quickly, they would have a lot of problems. Toss in that a lot of Americans would stand up and walk away if they attacked Canada as well and I don't think they could manage a war of more than a year or so.
Yeah, with the current state of the Armed Forces, any fight on Canadian soil would be most likely guerilla warfare. Rev, you're right, the USA would rely too much on their technology, but we would be safe from nukes if it were the US fighting us. The nuclear fallout if they used a nuke would severly affect the States too.
Anyway, its pretty funny that our Armed Forces aren't great, with not so great equipment and such, but when push comes too shove, all of a sudden, Canada gets prepped so fast.
I think that if the States did try and attack, they wouldn't ba able to fight too well on Canadian soil anyway.
And the Firearm Registration laws would be declared invalid within 1 minute of the start of an attack.
As for weaponry, I'm not sure about the Canadian stock. I know that Canada for sure carries biological and chemical weapons.
These are the current weapons the Army division of the Armed forces uses.
