I had a friend move from Winnipeg to Seattle to get married. That's how I became a Reverend, but that's another story.
Anyway, my friend had all sorts of trouble getting a green card and hassles with various government agencies. The cost was enormous...he had trouble with everything from being allowed to work to the lease on his car. That was back in 2000, the wedding was on New Years Day of the Millenium.
Lately he's been experiencing a lot of anti-Canadian sentiment. There was always some of it, but it picked up a lot after 9/11 and has gotten worse since the whole Iraq thing started.
You guys from history remember Zenfisher? That's him.
I had heard numerous horror stories about "getting into the states" before I moved here. However, on a personal note...I had absolutely no problems. From the very first piece of paper to the last interview, it took only 5 months. Not a single problem, not a single glitch. Was living down here during the whole process. Had my work permit 40 days after I got here too. From the people I've talked to, I've learned one thing. Every single little thing must be done properly...every piece of paper in order, not a day late, every needed document included. Anyone I know who had problems, it was a mistake of some sort on their part. I'm the most organized person in the world, so, it all worked out. On another note, when we started all this, we also checked into the possibility of my husband moving to Canada instead. The paperwork was triple what it is for moving to the states, the cost was almost double, and the Canadian gov't wanted background checks on almost every single person in his life. All the American gov't wanted was MY background check. Canada also wouldn't let him work for at least 6 months. I was working 7 weeks after I got here.
Here is another interesting section from the bowling for columbine site :

Thanks Twila, I'll give to her to read, although I'm sure it will make little difference to her. As far asrunning into trouble moving here, I haven't had any thus far, but I've just begun the paperwork. I've been assured by immigration services at the boys daycare that I should have no problems. Especially because I'm already married to an American. I hope they're right.
When Gemini mentioned being organized a little light went off in my head. My friend is a lot of things, but organized is not on the list. He'll give you his second-last beer though, and sometimes supplies me with Marlboros (undoubtedly the best cigarette on the planet) so it doesn't matter to me if he's organized. It might explain a few things though.
Well , I guess most of you heard about Michael Moore's comments after getting the academy award for bowling for coulmbine . I think he showed alot of class bringing up the other nominees with him on stage . Based on the way it's being reported here in the states , I'm more convinced then ever that U.S. media is firmly in the hands of the government .
There is no such thing, at this date of the world's history, in America, as an independent press. You know it and I know it. There is not one of you who dares to write your honest opinions, and if you did, you know beforehand that it would never appear in print. I am paid weekly for keeping my honest opinion out of the paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar salaries for similar things, and any of you who would be so foolish as to write honest opinions would be out on the streets looking for another job. If I allowed my honest opinions to appear in one issue of my paper, before twenty-four hours my occupation would be gone.
"The business of the journalists is to destroy the truth, to lie outright, to pervert, to vilify, to fawn at the feet of mammon, and to sell his country and his race for his daily bread. You know it and I know it, and what folly is this toasting an independent press? We are the tools and vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are the jumping jacks, they pull the strings and we dance. Our talents, our possibilities and our lives are all the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes."
--John Swinton, preeminent New York journalist,
ca. 1880, in response to a toast to "the independent press"

“[The corporate mass-media] serve to divert the unwashed masses and reinforce the basic social values: passivity, submissiveness to authority, the overriding virtue of greed and personal gain, lack of concern for others, fear of real or imagined enemies, etc.
“The goal is to keep the bewildered herd bewildered. It’s unnecessary for them to trouble themselves with what’s happening in the world. In fact, it’s undesirable — if they see too much of reality they may set themselves to change it.”

“One of the intentions of corporate-controlled media is to instill in people a sense of disempowerment, of immobilization and paralysis. Its outcome is to turn you into good consumers. It is to keep people isolated, to feel that there is no possibility for social change.”

tell me what you think
got that from http://www.thetruthseeker.co.uk/ which looks like a big conspiracy lover's site
i first saw bowling a few months ago and was interested and thought provoked like many of you, now i dunno. havent even formulated an opinion yet. is the movie deceiving and attempts to prove its point through editing? but ultimately, the message correct?
someone even made a site dedicated to taking away roger moore's oscar
http://www.revoketheoscar.com/
Michael Moore is no better than Geraldo Rivera maybe even as bad a Jerry Springer. I've been to the sites and as far as I am concerned, his documentary style obviously doesn't include truth.
As for his jeans wearing tilted baseball hat look, don't buy off on it. He is floating in cash. Ironic isn't it? He makes millions creating lie-ridden documentaries that bash wealthy people. Since he finds wealth so repugnant I wonder who he donates ALL of his cash to? Hmmmm.....
And what is up with Mr. Moore being able to purchase all the ammo he wanted in Canada? True? or was it illegal or a set up? You Canadians please let me know
And as far as his stance on gun control. If the US government is as corrupt and controlling as most of you are saying...by god I want my weapon and the right to bear it. If I lose that I have lost my last resort.

Geez and I hated Moore before BFC came out!
