OK, I have been reading a lot more complaints from people on both sides of the country about separating.
You have many people in Alberta wanting to separate now, together with individuals in the other western provinces. The bloc in Quebec is still strong, albiet weakening. All this is really annoying me.
To me, it is a "me, me, me" issue, spoken like a true 6 year old. People aren't getting the attention they want, so they are taking their ball and going home. Ya, sets a great precedent for international politics, or their own cities that may get upset. Hell, Montreal may want to separate from Quebec one day, who knows. But if Quebec ever separates from Canada the precedent has been set.
We all know Quebec's issues, but the whiners that are getting me more then any are those on the other coast. You have people bitching that their political parties weren't elected into the house and all the power resides in the east. And you know what, they are right. As it should be. Ontario has more people in it then Saskatchewan, Alberta and BC combined, so your damn right we should the most seats. This idea of a certain number of seats per province is BS, because that means the majority gets screwed. You aren't going to get anywhere when you ignore the largest voting population in Canada. Plus the leadership of the parties was horrible. How many leaders has the reform or CA had in the past 6 years. Ya, that is the great example of stability I want running my country.
But because of this issue you have the "Free Western CANADA " campaigns going on. I don't know if they are actually serious about separation or just using the attention whore tactic the bloc used, but it is treasonous to me. To me, it isn't up to the federal government to baby sit provinces. They look out for what is best for Canada. It is up to the province to look out for the provinces. It is your premiers job to get the ear of the federal government and turn their attention on you. Not to say, "I give up, they aren't going to help, so screw'em". That is a losers attitude.
The main reason why Quebec gets some much attention is because their premiers have been good with getting the federal governments ear. Ya, they may have turned our stomachs in the mean time, but they got their way. I have no respect for those who pushed that way, but it was effective. But now we have the same thing out west, and I am losing respect for their politicians also.
I have heard stories about how much the people out west dislike us from Ontario, in particularly Toronto (my roommate refused to be served at a bar becaues he was wearing a Maple Leafs hat for example). Now I don't dislike any westerns, I am just gettin tired of being the bad guy in their eyes.
If you support separatism, you support treason. And treason is still a crime.
Later (sorry about the rant).
I wouldn't be too concerned about seperatism , it seems to me that sovereignty is Canada's primary concern . At the rate things are going , it won't be long before Canada is just a description to identify a landmass on a map . Everything your country is will be sold to the highest bidder , and cater to the lowest common denominator . Perhaps social programs can be slashed , and Canada will then be able to afford to have a powerful military , and have opportunities to utilize it throughout the world . If y'all work at it just a little bit more , you can be just like the U.S. Keep up the good work !
If Quebec or Western Canada seperates there is a very strong chance that we could have Civil War on are hands. What Prime Minister wants to be known as the man who let Canada break up? Now Civil Wars have always been exceptionaly nasty. Look at the former Yugoslavia, China, Russia, the US, and Englands. We could end up with real nasty shit going on. Rule of Law fails in area of the country giving rise to heavily armed bands of bandits who will ravage the country. Native groups join in the fighting or decide to declare their independence. After a while we start to ethnic cleansing and genocide. Well chaos reigns terrorists decide Canada is the perfect place to launch terrorist attacks on the US. US intervines militarily. At that point it goes one of two ways. 1)The Americans manage to restore order. Canada becomes the part of America or little more then a weak puppet. 2) The Americans fail to restore order and Canada begins to look like parts of Africa. Chaos may or may not spill over causing most of North America to disintegrate into warring factions.
Pray this dosen't happen.
All this talk about the war , and Canada being torn between sides over it , as well as the overall world situation reminded me of a dream I had recently .
In the dream , I was running alongside thousands of lemmings who where in almost perfect formations . I started to slow down , and one of the lemmings on the outer edge fell out of formation to run alongside me . The furry little bastard maintained a jogging pace with me and looked up at me and asked " Why are you slowing down?" , and I said : " Because we're heading for the edge of the cliff ! " and the lemming replies " Yeah , so what ? " and I said " Well , we're going to go over the edge and fall ! " And the lemming says to me - " Well , hopefully we'll all have a soft landing ." Then I woke up . I SWEAR I don't do drugs

that is a pretty ignorant sounding to me. you said that we westerners have a "me me me" attitude but you have thae same ideas going in your head. canada is about equality. what kind of equality has a majority of people making decisions that ignore and/or screw the minority? the majority never gets screwed, look at the government we've had for the last geological period! you easterners elected the liberal dinosaur how many times in a row? it's like our votes don't even count because of the difference in population. might as well not vote if u live west of ontario. you better get your head on straight before you tell anyone that ontario gets screwed by the west.
I don't think anyone should separate. Reason? Without any one of our pprovinces, Canada isn't Canada. Canada is all those provinces and peoples together. So no one should separate.
You'll always have fools from all three oceans complaining about separatism. I myself live in Regina and here small groups wanting to separate from Canada. But I also have a francophone friend in Quebec City with whom I communicate with by www.freetranslation.com He is a proud Canadian and tells me the only separatists left in Quebec are over 60 years of age. I also have a brother in Montreal that tells me the same thing. I have another friend stationed in Nunavut telling me of a revolt from the North to separate from Canada and join Greenland. All of this is a joke. Canada will be Canada, now and forever.
Seperatism is a recurring issue in Canada, so I guess it doesn't matter, but did anyone even think of looking at the date this post ended? Apr 02, 2003 was the last post of this tpoic before Indelible restarted it. Not that thats a problem with this topic.... Seperatism is still here unfortunatly...
Not to be an ass or annoying or anything, but did anyone notice that the last time this post was talked about was on April 3rd, 2003 before Indelible restarted it. Not that it matters, cause Seperatism is still around, although in the form of the very elderly as Marlins75 put it. its just, I wanna make sure no one starts some post from a long time ago from the time of 9-11 or anything like that. Anyway, I'd probably read it and think that a similar thing has happened

What I mean't by that is, if you start an old thread, some people may mistake it and think it is a new topic... you know? Get people talking and argueing about something thats been over for a couple of months...
