What would you say if a high school vocal music teacher decided that she was going to add some new lyrics to the national anthem, make her students sing it for marks and have the entire class sing it so that it can played on the announcements every day before school?
I'd say, "What are the lyrics?"
It isn't like our anthem hasn't been changed before. As long as the lyrics she wrote are respectful and inclusive of all Canadians and the students know that it is not the official version, I don't have a problem with it.
Im not a fan of our national an anthem, we need somthing new.
my problem is that the anthem is a part of our national identity and i agree that it has been changed but i do not think that that the highschool class room is the right place to change it.
The anthem is great....I,too don't see the classroom as the place to change it!!!
They've changed the lyrics so many friggin' times I won't stand up for it anymore.
A high school class has to right to change to anthem.
i think the anthem is good as is. i agree that it is part of our national identity.
i think there ought to be a poll on this thread! (judging by the responses so far)
A poll would be fine, but I want to know what the lyrics are.
Would there be a copy right issue here ? Changing the lyrics would that be a crime/offence ... or not?

O Canada! Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all our sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise
The True North, strong and free;
And stand on guard, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.
Refrain:
O Canada! Glorious and free!
We stand on guard! We stand on guard for thee.
O Canada! We stand on guard for thee.
O Canada! Where pines and maples grow.
Great prairies spread and lordly rivers flow.
How dear to us thy broad domain,
From East to Western Sea,
Thou land of hope for all who toil!
Thou True North, strong and free!
Refrain: (repeat)
O Canada! Beneath thy shining skies
May stalwart sons and gentle maidens rise,
To keep thee steadfast through the years
From East to Western Sea,
Our own beloved native land!
Our True North, strong and free!
Refrain: (repeat)
Why do I keep expecting my TV to go off?
It does...when tv stations sign off they play the national anthem. At least they used to.
But since most stations don't sign off anymore...they just play endless info-mericals...it's a rarity.
Am I showing my age?
