$1:
The girl's lawyer and human rights activist Shatha Nasser said the minor had filed a suit in April asking for divorce and told the court that her husband had been physically abusing her and forcing her to have "sex with him after hitting her."

yet.....

$1:
The court also ordered the child's family to pay about $250 in compensation to the 30-year-old ex-husband.

Not only was this POS raping and beating on an 8 yr. old girl, but it is her family that has to pay in the end for his crimes. To all those cultural relativists out there who think that there are no superior cultures....fuck you. A goddamn staphylococcus bacterial culture is superior to the one that condones and practices this shit.

newfette @ Wed Apr 16, 2008 3:47 am

what kind of parents allow an 8 year old to marry a 30 year old?

lostalex @ Wed Apr 16, 2008 3:51 am

this is horrific. however just to keep things in context, both America and Canada both have Mormon sects that practice polygamy, incest, and arranged marriages of children within our countries borders.

not sure how common stories like this are in Yemen, but situations like this are certainly not unique to arab countries. although obviously the court order that the girl pay that dirt bag money is obviously something that would never happen here. But the atrocities she endured certainly do happen in north america aswell.

thank gawd she's safe now. absolutely horrific. :(

martin14 @ Wed Apr 16, 2008 4:03 am

lets keep things really in context..

would you like to comment on how Mormonism is the law of the land over here ??

Because that 'marriage' was sanctioned.. its why the ex got compensation..

'safe'.. this child will never be safe..

she has humiliated her family.. she is no longer a virgin and cannot be married

off again.. she has no value to her family.

my guess, she will be dead within 3 months.. honor killing.

Do we choose sticks to beat her to death, or a good old fashioned stoning ?

I'll go with Shep on this one.

8O Are you being for real! stop listening to the hate America first crowd.

canuckns @ Wed Apr 16, 2008 7:23 am

While I agree with Shep that this is seriously fracked up. The fact that the girl is only 8 sickens me. More and more of this Sharia law crap keeps coming out and everytime I get sickened a little more.

However if you look at the recent events in Texas Polygamist ranch happening within the US.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a "US hater". I'm just saying that while this incident in Yemen is disgusting and yes Martin your probably right about the girl being dead in 3 months due to an "honour" killing. That shit similar to this is happening right here in North America, and not just some ass backwards muslim country.

ShepherdsDog @ Wed Apr 16, 2008 7:25 am

Lumping incest, pedophilia and polygamy together is ludicrous. Polygamy while unacceptable nowadays, was common in almost all cultures. It just became impractical and became unfashionable with the growth of egalitarianism within our society. The first two are sexually deviant behaviors that have negative consequences for all involved, while the polygamy's biggest drawback is....multiple sets of in laws. In a sense polygamy still exists in certain forms. Many wealthier/powerful men have their wives and long term mistresses and have children with both. Francois Mitterand was a good example. As long as the participants are all of legal age(not just age of consent), unlike the Texas bunch and have entered into the relationship freely with full knowledge what is really wrong with polygamy?

martin14 @ Wed Apr 16, 2008 7:41 am

the events are just not similar at all..

I agree there are some small crazy groups in the US, and probably in Canada

as well, but they do not form the majority by a long shot, nor the

basis of a country wide legal system.

and things like marrying off 8 year olds is flat out not done here..

that marriage was terminated only because the girl had not 'reached puberty',

not because she was regularly beaten and raped.. that doesnt appear to be

grounds for divorce.. so the girl will be ready again when she is

what, 11, 12, 13.. IF she lives that long, which i doubt.

to be honest, i am a little surprised that some are trying to connect these

two incidents.. they are so clearly different.

Streaker @ Wed Apr 16, 2008 10:22 pm

Maybe we should invade Yemen and kill a few hundred thousand of 'em, just to, you know... prove our superiority.

martin14 @ Wed Apr 16, 2008 10:51 pm

maybe we should send you, so you can spend a couple of years apologizing

to them for how bad we are.

oh yeah, and you can pick up an 8 year old for yourself.. maybe two..

Streaker @ Wed Apr 16, 2008 10:56 pm

You really are a sorry little feller, now aren't you, Marty? :|

martin14 @ Wed Apr 16, 2008 11:12 pm

oh why would you say that, stweeky ?

little office drone spending his life with nothing to do but

looking for spiteful and negative things..

maybe you are much more sorry than me....

poor little leftoid, come here and let me rub ur head.. with my boot ;)

...whadya think of this? Streaker doesn't appear to have much of a problem with it, they're not American or American sympathizers so they're simply misunderstood, can't possibly have done anything wrong! Or maybe this is just his thing, he never objected, so who knows?
/shrug

Lily, I know you know better, so lets worry about this 8 year old girl and ignore the trolls.

Yes, we unfortunately have the sects that practice polygyny in both the States and Canada (That group of Mormons in, was it, Hope, BC?) but there's one vital difference. Firstly, there's no way they would have been legally married, and if it was found that the little girl had even been touched in an inappropriate way, nevertheless beaten and raped, lord knows what would have happened to the poor bastard when he would "resist arrest." Hell, we even have laws protecting grown women from such a acts of violence and rape by their husbands. Here the Mormons and other work below the law, over there sick fucks like that ARE the law.

Why? There's nothing of any value there.....or have they discovered new oil reserves that need to be liberated?

There is a polygamist compound in BC, but rest assured that if any abuse is reported or discovered it is dealt with under the law. That's the difference in Canada it is lot tolerated under the law.
