11 Yrs Old Mom Pushed to Marry Her Rapist in Florida
You misunderstand me. I meant it wouldn't matter if your dubious claims about this primarily involving Black people are true ot not. Doesn't make it any less abhorrent or excuse GOP lawmakers from defending these laws.
I didn't see anything at that link you posted except to reader reviews written by people who remember her from church and seem to corroborate her story.

The GOP in Florida changed those laws in 2015 and the new law set the general minimum age for marriage as sixteen with parental consent.
http://www.leg.state.fl.us/Statutes/ind ... .0405.htmlThey did put in a codicil that allows a judge the latitude to permit a marriage that involves a child under sixteen. (Like in cases where two legally emancipated minors wish to wed.)
If the judge is out of bounds and abuses this right they can be removed from the bench.
In any case, the previous laws are dead and gone, thanks to the GOP legislature that voted the new law through and the signature of Republican Governor Rick Scott.

Shocker, all religions are complete and total garbage. Whodathunkit.
This isn't just about religion.
What the article fails to tell you is that Sherry Johnson is in her 70's and that this episode occurred sixty years ago.
It also fails to tell you that she is black and that underage marriages in the black community were endlessly common in that period. Underage sexual assault is disproportionately represented and under-prosecuted in the black community even still.
Also, this story is supporting a book that was released four years ago. This is not news.
It's almost like southern black communities are overwhelming christian as well.
I'm sure that has nothing to do with it though, it's cause they're black.
Bart, Read sections 2 to 4 of your last link.
Section 2 says a judge has discretion to authorize marriage of minors at any age, with parental consent.
Section 3 says children of any age can be married at a judges discretion WITHOUT parental consent if the female minor is pregnant and:
a) the male is a also a minor and the father of the child; or
b) the pregnant female minor is marrying an adult male (regardless of whether the adult is the father)
Section 4 confirms that sections 2 and 3 are exempt from the minimum age 16 rule.
So I'd save your applause for your beloved GOP lawmakers if I were you

1. Sherry Johnson was allegedly part of some cult. I say "allegedly" because a majority of reviewers on Amazon suspect her account is fictional.
2.
https://www.statista.com/statistics/254 ... ethnicity/Blacks are disproportionately represented as both victims and perpetrators of child abuse. It's just a fact.

I don't have a problem with an impartial judge having the latitude to make a decision like that if it is in the best interests of the children who are getting married. That's why we have judges is to make decisions like that.
It's not just black people who do this kind of thing.

“Clearly, ignorance of the law is not a defense, but there was no malicious intent here, if you will, as foreign as it to us.”
In this case a 26yo man married a 13yo girl in a Catholic church and although the marriage wasn't legal it was consensual and it had parental consent.
From my POV it's disgusting. But in Guatamala it's perfectly normal.
We asked these people to come to the US and then we didn't ask them to leave their culture behind and this is part of their culture.
Now put this in front of a Florida judge and that judge might decide that the girl wants to be with the guy, the parents consent, and that she'd be doing more harm by separating them...so she has the leeway to allow this marriage as an exception under the law.
Or not and put the dirtbag in prison and then deport him when he's released.
Up to the judge.
*****
Now ask me what I'd do about it and that's to shoot the dirtbag and then bury him next to the girl's parents and priest.

BeaverFever BeaverFever:
Look at the info graphics in the OP The child marriage states corrrespond pretty closely to red states
$1:
The search turned up cases of 12-year-old girls married in Alaska, Louisiana and South Carolina, while other states simply had categories of “14 and younger.”
...Among the states with the highest rates of child marriages were Arkansas, Idaho and Kentucky.
. Red states, and not exactly epicentres of Muslim settlement
$1:
In New Hampshire, a girl scout named Cassandra Levesque learned that girls in her state could marry at 13. So she set out to change the law.
A legislator sponsored Cassandra’s bill to raise the age to 18, and researchers found that two 15-year-olds had recently married in New Hampshire, along with one 13-year-old. But politicians resisted the initiative.
“We’re asking the Legislature to repeal a law that’s been on the books for over a century, that’s been working without difficulty, on the basis of a request from a minor doing a Girl Scout project,” scoffed one state representative, David Bates. In March the Republican-led House voted to kill the bill, leaving the minimum age at 13. (Legislators seem willing to marry off girls like Cassandra, but not to listen to them!)
I think that the above is self explanatory. So you think this is because the child marriages are Muslims and Republicans love muslimoand are trying to impose sharia law? I think it's pretty clear who the political clients are.
$1:
New Jersey lawmakers passed a bill that would make their state the first in the country to ban marriages of people under 18, but Gov. Chris Christie this month blocked the legislation. New York legislators are considering a bill backed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo to raise the age to 17, from the current minimum, 14.
Christie = Republican
Cuomo = Democrat
Need I say more?
I did notice the ONE Jewish woman, but Iif you pay attention you'll notice it says she was 19 at the time of her marriage. She's mentioned because she's the founder of the organization Unchained at Last that os trying to stop child marriages.
As for your Canada comments:
First understand that in Canada, age of consent (for marriage and most other things) is provincial jurisdiction, not federal so saying that there is no national law is a red herring. That said, Section 2.2 of the federal Civil Marriage Act explicitly states: "No person who is under the age of 16 years may contract marriage"
16 is also the legal age for consensual sex with any partner. Marrying your rape victim doesn't exonerate you from statutory rape charges in Canada.
Second, understand that outside of marriage laws, Section 293.2 of the Criminal Code states "Everyone who celebrates, aids or participates in a marriage rite or ceremony knowing that one of the persons being married is under the age of 16 years is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years.
Thos particular group thinks it should be 18 because brides not old enough to sign lease, etc. get trapped. Ok fine. But what we're really talking about in this forum is brides age 10 and 11, etc. who are under the age of sexual consent.
Next let's address the supposed Muslim agenda and the former conservative governments failed attempt at at the anti-Muslim "barbaric cultural practices" legislation. The law failed and was ridiculed because it did not outlaw anything that isn't already illegal. It's already illegal to murder someone. We don't need a second law to say its super double illegal for a Muslim to murder someone. We don't need a law that says "if you see someone getting murdered call 911 but if they're Muslim call the barbaric cultural practices tip line".
As I've shown marriage is already regulated without this stupid bill and when you see the embarrassing 9th place finish of that bill's chief proponent, Kelly Leitch, 'in the recent conservative leadership race with a campaign built around similar themes, you'll understand why her Canadian political career is now over for good. Maybe you can repurpose her south of the border to root out all the barbaric cultural practices of the Christiani religious right and purge all the pervs and pedos from the Republican voting base. That's something I'd supprt!
Its too late and I am too tired to address all of your post. You can call me lazy, and I will second the motion. I want to address the NH. case, and rape. A girl scout feels that the age of marriage is to low and as a project she proposes that the age be raised to 18. I will admit that I agree with her. I got married at 24. Was I ready? No. Are you ever ready? No. She proposed that the age of marriage be raised to 18. Would I want my daughter getting married under 18? No I would not. She is 21 now and she seems light years away from being ready for marriage. Do kids even get married these days? What do I know? I am a living fossil. I do not like to see young people fucking up their lives. Whether it be tattoos, piercings, Facebook pics, tweeting, joining the military, marrying, etc. I joined the military at 17. That desicion could have had a much bigger effect on my life than getting married. Why does the girl scout not care about that? Canadians can join the reserve forces at age 16. How is it ok to kill for King and country (or die for King and country) at 16 years of age but not be married at that age? This is what the girl scout was asking the legislature to do. The military does not pay someone to be shacked up with someone. They do pay you to support your married significant other. I did not want to be married at 16. Thats me. I don't want to be married at 52. Who am I to judge? If someone is old enough to go to war and die for King and country, than they ought to be old enough to get married. And consume alcoholic beverages for that matter. And vote and rent a car, or hotel room, carry concealed weapons,
etc. If you want to send someone off to fight for your country at 16 years of age, than you need to be ready to support his family that he left behind. Thats only fair. My two cents worth.
The minimum age in NH is 13. Way too young.
As for the Canadian Forces, age 16 is for High School Co-op or ROTP, these are not active duty members who can fight or be deployed. Age 17 with parental consent is the minimum, realistically by the time they're trained and deployable they're 18 anyways. Personally, I would be ok if they went to age 18 so as not to encourage dropping out of school.
BeaverFever BeaverFever:

But wait a second here, the education establishment is teaching kids all about normal sex, anal sex, oral sex, and etc. as young as five years old now and they've encouraged the kids to practice 'safe sex'. These are all things that are practically sacred writ to the leftist education establishment.
Yet sex has consequences.
And if a 13yo is not ready for marriage then how are they supposed to be ready for sex? Why is it okay for them to engage in mindless sex at that age but then not deal with the emotional and sometimes physical ramifications of sexual activity by getting married?
You're forgetting that child marriage is often times part of the end result of children becoming sexually active at too young an age.
If you don't want them getting married before they turn 16 or 18 then they also need to be discouraged from sexual activity because it's such a powerful emotional experience regardless of how casual the leftist degenerates who run the public schools would like it to be.
This is where I stand on this subject is that I don't care if it's a religious cult, a retrograde 3rd world culture, or an 'enlightened' education establishment behind it, I don't want kids encouraged into giving up their childhood too soon.
Domestic be so stupid seriously.
Lies lies lies. Nobody is teaching 5 year olds anal sex. Or any sex. Shame on you and your shameless lies!!!
"Sex Ed" for young kids -if you can even call it sex ed- is just about teaching them about sexual abuse, and what to do if it happens to them or someone they know. Enough with your disgusting fucking lies!
Second of all sex ed doesn't encourage older kids to have sex or even teach "how" to have sex. It teaches them about SAFE SEX so they DONT get pregnant or ctach an STI. It's the teenagers who still think babies come from storks who end up getting pregnant from playing doctor with the boy next door.
It's the kids who DONT get sex ed who end up being easy prey for predators, teenage moms and with STIs. Reality is literally THE EXACT OPPOSITE of what you claim. As with every topic of life, ignorance is what makes them vulnerable. But your whole political philosophy is badly on promoting and celebrating ignorance so why would ignorance about sex be any different?
Lastly marrying off a pregnant child to her abuser or to another child who is the father is NOT the answer and should NOT be acceptable. When did you become a fundamentalist Muslim?

I never said that,
you just did.
While this tactic of yours may be effective with other people isn't it about time that you realized that I don't play your silly stupid game of making shit up and then expecting me to defend it?
