God doesn't care

I used to be pretty rabid in my anti-religion, but I'm trying to tone it down.

I'm just starting to tone mine up. A woman I know who's a catholic posted an "inspirational" message on facebook that basically said the reason there is violence in schools is because we don't let God into them. I had to ask her if she really though that God was allowing children to be murdered because we won't allow bibles and prayer into schools. She took the message down soon after.
Oh that's good. So far, no one has done that here, and the religious folk have been pretty mum on this. But good on you to roll in contemplating on ratcheting up the noise level for the sake of some forum fun.
Hopefully you won't though.

If some religious people actually think a god would punish children for something as stupid as not allowing religious practices in school, then they need to reevaluate their beliefs.

Agreed... 100%. No one here did, so I'd suggest you save your ire for your Facebook friend and not opt to unleash your disgust on the religious folk on this site.
I doubt we really need that level of noise at this time, do we?

Then unload your little tantrum and we'll have at it. Or, shut the fuck up about it.
I'm game either way.

That FB chain post is one of the most annoying posts I have seen in a long time. It suggest only Atheists are capable of committing crimes (or that is what I got from it), which is obviously utter bullshit. Or, what RUEZ said, that this is God's punishment for not allowing religion in public classrooms.
Crime (as well as morals and values) have nothing to do with religion or lack there of.
I hope that people who believe can find some peace when praying, and I hope that the ones who don't believe can find some peace in any other way. Or more, I hope that everyone can find some solace in their own way, and that we stop blaming anything or anyone else than Adam Lanza for this.

Well, if we truly have free will, God cannot be omniscient, because the choice of futures is that of those who have free will. If the future is preordained according to God's plan, then we cannot truly have free will. Bit of a philosophical conundrum there.
That said, I'm not a religious man, but I've always appreciated God as a perfection for which to strive.
The God of the bible just doesn't work, just makes no sense. It's just people projecting their need to feel somebody is in charge and thinks they and their people are have a special arrangement with the guy upstairs.

Wouldn't that be nice.

Why do you stop of the God of the Bible as the be all and end all of religious faith?
Shit sakes, when you speak of cars does it start and end at the Dodge Neon?

Shep covered it pretty well. I view God as basically having the ability to see all possible futures and all possible pasts. Basically, he has totally oversight of not just what is our current reality, but all possible realities that could have occurred. So therefore, the future is only truly preordained because he's able to see all of the possible futures we have, and it's our choice as humans to freely pick which future we would prefer.

The freak's enablers, from his idiot mother to the executive board of the National Rifle Association, are as morally culpable as that cocksucker-who-will-not-be-named is. I want to believe that Hell exists with all the fire and cold and pain and eternal torture we've been told it contains because all of them deserve to go there for the rest of eternity with him.
No compromise, no understanding, no forgiveness for what happened on December 14, 2012, ever.
