Should we tolerate the intolerant
From the BBC series, the Big Question. A good watch, seeing what is going on in the UK today. The Christian broad saying that the Magna Carta was based on Jesus Christ had me shaking my head. The basis of the Magna Carta dealt with laws and traditions that predated Christianity in Germanic cultures that later morphed into the British people....... Norse/Norman, Angle, Saxon and Jute

This Court has gone far toward accepting the doctrine that civil liberty means the removal of all restraints from these crowds and that all local attempts to maintain order are impairments of the liberty of the citizen. The choice is not between order and liberty. It is between liberty with order and anarchy without either. There is danger that, if the Court does not temper its doctrinaire logic with a little practical wisdom, it will convert the constitutional Bill of Rights into a suicide pact.
- United States Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson
This is the essence of what's wrong with the concept of political correctness, of the liberal ideology that states the rights of the minority are paramount, even when the desire of the minority is to destroy the society and culture in which it resides. Hence the belief that we have to tolerate the most intolerant ideology in Islamism that we've ever encountered, that the existence of our own society is of second priority to the alleged right of that minority to destroy our society altogether.
That this dichotomy in thought even exists is the most obvious testimony to the failure of leftist/liberal thinking. One doesn't negotiate with a virus or bacteria, one fights and destroys it so one can keep on living.

That was pretty sad to watch.
The British have tolerated themselves into destroying their own country.
Other Commonwealth countries have to be very careful to not follow the same path.

Should we tolerate the intolerant
From a purely philosophical perspective, you'd have to say yes. Being intolerant of someone's intolerance makes you intolerant as well.
From a perspective of practicality, I'd have to say no. Tolerating the intolerance of people living in your country who hate it, its laws, its culture, and religion or lack thereof, is the slow boat to cultural/societal suicide. Just ask "not so" Great Britain.

Tolerance is only possible for those who agree to live in peace and under a system of law & order with you. When one party chooses to inject violence into their disagreements with others then that tolerance is obligated to end.

I see Hitchins arguing for Christianity being taught in schools - good luck with that. That's exactly how to open the door for the Muslims to push for the same thing. Secularism is the only way out of the mess. As I say, the Christians are as much of the problem as Muslims are.

Like Canada. We've done the same.

to be honest Rosie, it's not as bad as the UK.
We don't have Sharia courts.
We don't have civil serpents so retardedly PC that they are happy to let Muslim
rape gangs do as they please, while they cover it up.
We don't have politicians so afraid of saying anything against Islam, being
sure to recognize their holidays.
We don't have our soldiers being beheaded in our streets.
We haven't lost Christmas and Easter (sort of).
I say we don't have any of these things
YET,
but we are certainly on the right path to having them.

Seriously?
Being intolerant, regardless of which religion you practice (if at all) is one of the benefits of living in Canada.
We don't have to tolerate anything and we can have our own views and are able to disagree with others.

Big difference between intolerance and disagreement.

Get a grip bud. The big difference is most of the Christians I know are not interested in having Christianity taught in our public schools. They are fully cognizant of the fact there is a time and place for everything. Why do you think the CHPC is now defunct?
If you seriously think secularism will be the "only way out of the mess", then you obviously haven't been paying attention to France.
