One of the reasons it was so divisive is because gamers are a coddled bunch. If there's something a vocal group of gamers don't like it often gets changed. The ending to Mass Effect 3 caused such a stir that BioWare went and redid it. A more recent example is Spiderman. There was some skin missing that people felt ought to have been in the game; the developers got hectored into adding it to the game.,

Too many gamers have gotten used to the same old, same old and when Naughty Dog goes and turns the tables in their story people can't handle it. You'd think no one had read/watched GoT.....

Also, there is, sadly, a minority of people who cannot stand the idea of a strong female lead, much less two.

I thought The Last of Us 2 was excellent. It took balls on Naughty Dog's part to have the story play out the way it did.

   

To be fair, the ending to Mass Effect 3 was shit. They had told us that our decisions would change the ending, and it didn't. Fuck EA.
