Donald Trump is OFFICIALLY Banning TikTok in the US

If true this is a good thing. We tested TikTok at work and it's just as bad as the Facebook app (which we also prohibit) with tracing your activities outside of their app.
It will gather the following data from your device:
IP address, NAT addresses, MAC address, network data, it collects what network shared resources you have access to, it collects your Active Directory profile, devices near you accessible on WiFi or Bluetooth, contact list, cached web browser history, cached passwords (hashed), encryption hashes your device uses, your location, current OS version, current list of software installed on your device, and etc.
It accesses this data and then sends it in a series of invalid web requests to a server in China.
The web requests look like this: tiktik.com/ishhendnskkej72883838mmmshha
Also, why am I at work on Saturday?
Fucking China, that's why.
Oh, and we determined what info it was accessing by looking at the event viewer where all was revealed.

$1:
U.S. President Donald Trump said he will take action as soon as Saturday to ban TikTok, a popular Chinese-owned video app that has been a source of national security and censorship concerns.
Trump's comments came after published reports that the administration is planning to order China's ByteDance to sell TikTok. There were also reports Friday that software giant Microsoft is in talks to buy the app.

Probably not. He just cares if China collects that data, not if anyone else does.

153,000 dead and the president rants about TikTok....

Does he even have the authority to do this? Or is this just more of his bullshit tough-guy grandstanding for The Fans to lap up?
herbie @ Sat Aug 01, 2020 4:41 pm
Does he care?
No longer a discussion of IF he's a fascist, it's what level of fascist. Pinochet, Franco, Mussolini or full Hitler?
He mimics every Mussolini pose ever while speaking in public....... arms crossed over chest, pouty bottom lip stuck out. Despicable P.O.S.

Actually while he can’t technically “ban” TikTok he can pretty much accomplish the same result.
There are a lot of levers he can pull to make it almost impossible for TikTok to operate.
1. He can have the original acquisition deal reviewed and possibly dissolved pending the results
2. He can declare TikTok a national security threat and pull government contracts for any company that does business with TikTok and since Apple and Google both have government contracts, it could force them to remove TikTok from their app stores to keep those contracts. Of course Trump would have to convince Apple and Google that there was an actual risk or human rights abuses going on otherwise it would blow up into a huge lawsuit.
3. He can use the commerce department to take option 2 to the next level and force even companies without government contracts to end any business relation with TikTok or face severe consequences.
The Commerce Department also has broad authority to impose “export controls and other economic penalties” if they deem companies a national security risk, Skorup said.
This power lies in the Commerce Department’s Entity List, also known as Export Administration Regulations. American companies are discouraged from conducting transactions with companies on the list, while listed foreign companies must obtain licenses before selling goods.
Of course TikTok can try to fight Trump on any of these options but it would be very difficult and possibly take years. Their growth, value, etc would take a major hit.

If they were serious at all about banning tech that was a threat to the US they'd start with Facebook, considering how instrumental that particular platform was in putting a Putin stooge into the White House in the last election. Guess the kids really got the old puke-orange pervert riled up some with the way they used TikTok to sabotage the Tulsa rally that Herman Cain contracted a lethal illness at.

Also, I’m sure Sarah Cooper on Tik Tok doesn’t help either.
This could be a payoff to Zuckbot too. Eliminate a competitor to FB/IG in exchange for FB doing it’s usual jack shit to stop the endless stream of lies and misinformation being spread on its platform by the Trump campaign.

Then take down Twatter as well.

Damn straight. Civility would improve by about 10000% overnight if the entire internet were permanently disabled. Just like with lawyers, politicians, and preachers the internet only makes things that much worse.
I’m not exactly in the TikTok demographic - there may be good reasons for restricting it. More generally, however, if the US wants to stop the CCP taking over the world, mending fences with allies might be a start. Right now, Eurasia seems to be trending in China’s direction and Trump is helping. Tearing up international treaties and agreements is just what Beijing wants.

On the other hand the Apple, Google Play and MSoft store could decide the app meets their terms of service and tell Trump to fuck off.
