Taxing Solar to Save Electrical Utilities

Joined by traditional energy companies, they are lobbying governments to reverse decades of subsidies to green, renewable energy such as solar and, in some cases, to tax them.
In Europe, Australia and in the United States, energy companies have powerful lobbies that argue that they form a cornerstone of the economy and provide jobs to tens of thousands. Governments are forced to pay heed and in some cases they have acted.
In Germany they are taxing businesses that are now off the grid. From Spain to the USA governments are preparing or have already begun taxing solar.
What we need is a carbon tax, not a solar tax.

What we need is a carbon tax, not a solar tax.
What is needed is for people to realize that if they want a 100% back up system for their solar powered house, they will need to pay for it,
usually with higher connection rates.
The subsidies on renewables should be removed. Let them compete on the market
on the same field.

Do the right thing or we'll tax you, soon followed by do the right thing AND we'll tax you anyway. Same old song and dance really.
Let me tell you how it will be
There's one for you, nineteen for me
'cause I'm the taxman,
yeah, I'm the taxman
Should five percent appear too small
Be thankful I don't take it all
'cause I'm the taxman,
yeah, I'm the taxman
If you drive a car, I'll tax the street
If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat
If you get too cold, I'll tax the heat
If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet
Taxman
'Cause I'm the taxman,
Yeah, I'm the taxman
Don't ask me what I want it for
If you don't want to pay some more
'cause I'm the taxman,
yeah, I'm the taxman
Now my advice for those who die
Declare the pennies on your eyes
'cause I'm the taxman,
yeah, I'm the taxman
And you're working for no one but me

Spain's decree, although never converted to law, would force solar-equipped homes and businesses to connect to the grid and pay a tax on each kilowatt consumed.
You want to talk about hubris, let me tell you about the Spaniards.

Six cents per KwH tax on the sun that shines on your house? Being off the grid in a major city or town will net you an eight digit fine. In Euros.
The next step is taxing the air you breathe.
These people are fucked Martin.

Legislation written by the power companies no doubt.
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-06-2 ... nergy.htmlproblem is here:
http://elpais.com/elpais/2014/01/01/ine ... 30748.html$1:
The government says the main problem is the enormous electricity deficit - the difference between the sum paid by electricity companies to power generators and the amount they recoup from their customers. This has occurred as a consequence of subsidies to promote renewables, including high feed-in tariffs to power generators.
Another contributing factor to the deficit problem was a poorly designed policy that kept consumer rates low even as supply costs climbed, so the true costs were never passed on to customers. The electricity companies are now trying to recoup their debt, which makes up around eight percent of Spaniards' electricity bills.
And the way the 'electrical market' is worked is just utterly retarded.
You need to read the whole article to get an idea of what is going on.
The Spanish have wayyy too much electricty, because of the economy being in the toilet.
Close the plants.... ya, with 25% unemployment, that's good idea.
Zapatero fucked everything by mandating 2% price increases, and tons of subsidies for solar and wind. Economy goes down the drain, companies have to get some money somehow.
Now it is all coming home to roost, and the government is fucking the people,
because it can't touch anyone else.
This is what happens when you have a Socialist government............
This year, some people in Madrid will freeze to death, they have no money to
pay these prices for electricity.
I lived in Spain for 4 years, the only thing worse than the electricity was the internet connections.
Getting everyone to dump their solar and wind, and getting them back on the grid
won't actually solve much; what really needs to be done is not possible in Spain at this time.

Odd way to encourage green...........

Actually, they are trying to get rid of it now.
It's a very complicated mess, but it goes back to my first point.
Power companies have expenses, if you buy electricity from them or not.
If you don't buy, then someone else has to pay.
The only way to change that is to remove the '100% of the time I want electricity'.

Fixed that for you!

I can understand that. If you are using the grid for back up then you should be paying something for maintaining a connection to it. Not sure how often an average home would need the grid or how much it would use but maybe a generator back up would work better and they would be completely off grid and avoid paying the electric company anything. Spain is a financial mess, so I guess we can expect weird practices.

The other regulation I was laughing about was to make hooking your off grid solar
to batteries now illegal.
You know, make power during the day, need it at night.
Just retarded stuff, but par for the course there.
The stories of party members and mayors taking bribes, houses built illegally and then torn down, selling land illegally, those are much more fun to read.

Hard to believe they were once a world super power.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall.
Looks like Spain is falling particularly hard.

What we need is a revolution followed by firing squads for the kinds of vermin who thought up taxing
sunlight.
