Everything I know about time I learned from the TV Series 12 Monkeys.
Apparently time or at least the perception of such is what makes you human.
What you have to worry about is some nasty cult might come along and collapse time to a singularity so that there is no past or future or anything else for that matter. It all falls in on itself like a black hole and then you get your "Red Forest." You don't want that.
