Reliable sources, safely ensconced in the CBC comments section, from the rest of Canada inform me on a regular basis that IT'S ALL ALBERTA'S FAULT! And no one else in this country, especially not from the spewing-smokestack manufacturing heartland, is even slightly responsible.

To know where you are going is to know where you've been. The blame game can easily disintegrate into a quagmire of inaction. A baseline of responsibility must be metred out and now. Real action, not rhetoric. Solutions, not slogans.

The ugly truth is the climate is our collective responsibly. Freedom isn't free and neither is our continued existence guaranteed. The pandemic has shown REAL change can be done and its effects are immediate.

Our cities are based on ideas that are no longer sustainable but our very economy has yet to be shifted to a new and sustainable future and that window is closing rapidly. Some suspect that we may have already past it.

There is a war and it is for our very existence on this planet. There is no room for anyone on the sidelines.

Human nature isn't that egalitarian. And every crusade needs it's demonic heretic to rail against to sustain the rabid true believers. There is no "us". There is only us and them.

I'm cheering for us to vote ourselves off the island.

The spewing-smokestack manufacturing heartland abolished coal-fired power plants plants in 2014, invested heavily in renewable energy and (Until Doug Ford) had its own cap-and trade system.

Wow. It almost makes up for the previous hundred years of industrial poisoning of the environment.

Gotta start somewhere. Past wrongdoing doesn’t justify continued wrongdoing.

Just like the current-day British and European enviro-types who live in countries that wiped out all their wolves and bears stridently saying to Canada to ban hunting. Do what we want because we're obviously more moral than you! It's like being told how evil sex is by the holiest of priests who like to rape children in their spare time.

BeaverFever @ Sun Jun 21, 2020 9:53 pm

No it’s more like a reformed criminal trying to convince an active criminal to also reform.

“But you used to commit crimes too” is not a valid excuse to keep on committing crimes.

Thanos @ Mon Jun 22, 2020 1:26 am

"Reformed".

Yes.

No.
The climate is NOT "our" collective responsibility --- not unless your definition of "our" is different from that of the working class.

The ugly truth is that if the queen of England gave a shit about the climate -- more precisely, if the hysterical cult of climate-phobia had any semblance of integrity, then we would see vast terrains of methodical systemic re-forestation throughout her colonies. She aint doing that.

Climate change: Planting new forests 'can do more harm than good'

Scare me? You don't even amuse me anymore.

But I do smile at the thought that being perpetually wrong must give you a little physical discomfort.
