My son's school uses iPads extensively. He also has his own (that he earned his own money to buy) along with his own computer (that he also bought with his own money) and he gets limited time on both. Hey whiny parents, fuck off and go parent!
Is Apple getting kickbacks for this ?
Was there a tender ?
Will they work with all the Microsoft crap at home ?
Are there kickbacks in public education? If the public had any idea of the scale and scope of kickbacks in schoolboard contracts/policies, the entire board-system would be blown up. It's a dirty little secret that few comprehend.
My kids high school "highly recommends we buy an iPad for our children, that they should take to school"
Yeah, no. I HATE Apple, and I refuse to buy an iPad. The school provides them during class.
Smart boards and tablets will be the norm in every classroom in the next few years.
Tablets, sure, smartboards, nope. They're already passé. Boards in Ontario have spent millions on those things and they're mostly collecting dust. Reminds me of the monorail Simpsons episode. The smartboard is a perfect example of wasted spending and kickbacks in the school system.

If they are paying for them then I say great! Unlike that other school (forgot the name in St. Vital) in Winnipeg which made student buy laptops as mandatory. At least Winnipeg St. James realizes some families just can't cover the cost, even of cheap laptops.
I would think actually in the long run cheaper. If the Schools use the technology and create a program for those of lower incomes to get the technology excellent. I have seen a few School districts in the US go to complete digital technology and scrap the text and paper and actually save money. The savings they put into a high interest account to set up grants and programs for those at the Poverty line and below to obtain the Technology. My USCG Det rebuilds about 90 computer's a year and donates them to Low income youth who qualify using income guidelines and grades. although this year we have raised enough money to purchase 150 Ipad Tabs. Will be donating them to the North Ind. School Dist in SA to there Special Education Dept that focuses on Autism. We have noticed Autistic Children seem to take to learning better and tension spans ease when using the Technology. That is a great thing to see with Autistic children, seeing them smile and taking interest in learning thru Technology.

Why can't the girls choose the pads they want?
