Did anyone see the Canucks game against Colorado last night? I mean, WHAT in the HELL was Bertuzzi thinking? I say nothing. But I bet a lot of people in Vancouver lost a lot of respect for Bertuzzi last night.

You thoughts ?

Does anyone have a link to any video on this hit? I did not see what happened, and text reports vary. Sounds gruesome and aweful by all accounts so far.

As for the incident with Naslund that may have been the precursor to this hit, how bad was it? Did this guy goon Naslund pretty bad also?

Two cracked vertebrae and out for the season.

Vancouver cops investigating - he should be careful and only have contact with the cops if his lawyer and/or friends are present. If not, there's a good chance he could find himself at the wrong end of a billy stick, taser, boots and spray laying face down in Stanley Park.

On a less serious note, if the evidence is there that he was 'sucker punched' maybe it's time for a criminal charge. Yes? No?

I haven't seen any video links yet Mukluk, but to get a good sense of it it was akin to what McSorely did to Brashear a few years ago.

As for the hit on Naslund, it was a semi-clean hit. Naslund was chasing after the puck not looking and Moore saw an opportunity. Naslund was out for three games because of the hit though. A lot of people thought it was dirty hit but Naslund didn't think so. Either way, Steve Moore was a persona non grata in Vancouver.

Boot him outta the league, and press charges.

Simple as that.

The hit itself wasn't that gruesome, he came up behind the guy and just let him have it... In my opinion, at first anyway, it didn't look like it was very serious, I just thought Bertuzzi was being a pussy. It would have been completely different if it was during a fist fight and he just hurt him more then he intended.. this was an assault...

well, it WAS a cheap shot he gave, but i don't think he intended to break the guys neck like that. the was he fell and hit his chin on he ice (which probly was the cause of the neck injury) was purely accidental.

HOWEVER, one saying i have is "impact before intent". although the neck-breaking blow wasn't intended, he shouldn't have taken the cheap shot in the first place. it don't matter if he didn't mean to break his neck but it still happened. i agree that he should be suspended and maybe even treated like McSorely was.

I watched that game last night. what a weird piece of hockey.

what bertuzzi did was wrong. he's going to get suspended for at least 10 games if not more.

here's what I saw:

guys were after moore all night long. cooke fought him in the first,
and there were numerous run ins and yapping after the whistle. cooke's a little guy (smaller than moore) and moore fought him, but when brad may came calling he wussed out and skated away.

then in the third with about 6 minutes to go bertuzzi was obviously calling moore on, moore went to skate away again and bert just grabbed his jersey from behind and punched him in the side of the head. moore looked stunned and fell forwards on his face. bertuzzi went down on top of him, then about 3 or 4 other players all dogpiled on them.

here's what I think:

bertuzzi wasnt trying to put the guy in the hospital. he was trying to teach him a lesson. moore was being a wuss. he was pretending like nothing happened, refusing to answer the bell. you put a hit like that on someone like naslund, and then play turtle when payback comes?

anyways bertuzzi messed up and will be suspended. at least burke got off his 'lame-duck' rear end and made some good trades.

If you were pissed off at somone and he just walks away from you would you just let him get away without him hearing your side of the story... I wouldn't but i wouldn't throw a punch at him.

In the replay it looks as if bertuzzi is trying to get his glove underneath the face of moore as they are sliding across the ice as if maybe bertuzzi was trying to raise his face of the ice, but he can't because he's got colarado dog piling on top of him. Or maybe he was trying to get his glove off...

But i don't think the police need to investigate this...

I'm a loyal Canuck fan and i havn't lost respect for the team, a little for bertuzzi for making a bad choice and somewhat a bit of respect for cloutier for letting 4 goals out of 10 shots in and for not starting hedberg.... he was on a shutout streak with two shutouts

RoyalHighlander @ Tue Mar 09, 2004 8:19 pm

Bootuzzi is done for the rest of the season...
naslund said himself that Moores hit was legal and not a cheap shot.. There should have not been retaliation..
If the guy dont want to fight... let it be..
Dont sucker punch the fellow

what Bertuzzi did was plain and simply,
Assault causing bodily harm..
I hope they throw the book at him.. what he did has no place in hockey or any sports for that matter

feeko @ Wed Mar 10, 2004 7:24 pm

bert should be banned from pro hockey....keep the police out of it...and be given a bill for thy guys injuries....+ a few more for taking him out of play

Imagine this:

You work in a large office. A guy goes to the water fountain and another sneaks up behind him and plows him in the side of the face breaking two vertebrae. Another guy has filmed the entire assault.

The police are called. Take statements. Seize the video and follow up at the hospital.

The assaulter is charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm. Would anyone suggest otherwise?

That's the natural flow of events.

It will be interesting to see if the police lay any charges re this occurrence. I think they should. I also think Bertuzzi should be suspended until Moore is certifiably able to return to hockey.

othello @ Thu Mar 11, 2004 4:52 pm

I surprise myself in saying this, but I agree with Karra

ghostmaker @ Thu Mar 11, 2004 5:02 pm

i think rest of regular season and 1st round POs should have done it...
he never intended to break the guys neck. and nobody talks about the crazy avs players who jumped right on them miliseconds after the incident.
that wasn't good for moore for sure...
