I posted this in the news link but figured it was worthy of discussion as minor sports leagues are very important in both the US & Canada. Although this was a US incident I have no problem seeing this happening in Canada (esp in hockey) by a coach or a parent. I spent many years refereeing hockey and every year their seemed to be coach's and parents whos behaviour was beyond belief. I've had a coach physically attack me. I watched a punch-up in the stands by parents in attendence of an atom level game. I've had coach's screaming obscenities at me from the players box and then from the stands when I ejected him. I overheard a coach "dressing" down a 9 year old because "he didn't take a players legs out on a breakaway". I'm betting that there are other forum denziens who are/were coaches, parents of kids in these leagues or former referee's (I believe that Twister is a hockey coach). What is(are) your takes on this incident?

Well if you are not going to instill this competitive edge in the youngsters who is going to drive the corporations of tomorrow. Do you want our capitalist system to collapse?
Since I can be described as being from the left I thought this might put me in Hwackers good graces:)
Come on guys. I thought every one would recognize that I was being sarcastic and trying to be humourous about it. Suck at it I guess.
Alas, DerbyX's sig is true,"We live as we dream, alone"
All I can say is thats abhorent. First off as a hockey coach I don't prescribe to the yelling and win at all costs attitude. I run 3 very successful programs. Generally I am well contained, I was an extremely competative hockey player (goaltender) with a very short fuse and quick temper. I am however, not like that behind the bench. I rarely if ever show emotion before during or after the game. If I yell it is becuase it is needed at that point, or I am too frustrated to believe that a coverage or a system was not adhered to. My players listen to me because I explain things to them they don't listen to me because I go flying off the handle every ten minutes. I coach against guys like that.. it's fun watching them boil over.
Well, this is my position. My dad is a exemplified Hockey fan. He tought me everything there is to know about Hockey. When I was playing, he urged me on and on and on, telling me to do better and better. He yelled, he screamed, and I tried to do my best and I did. It paid off. I made it to the WHL until my Knee gave out. He said. Good job, however, would you have done a better job if I didn't urge you on? I didn't do it for him, but for me. Sure some people push their kids and yell and scream, but hey, it makes them a better athelete. Something Canada desperatly needs in abundance of I might add, *cough* Olympics *cough* Now I can attribute my Dad as my Coach which I might add did the same thing to me, so while I did not appreciate being eyed upon, I did try harder when pissed upon.
