If you and her and any others who don't understand that you are representing a country when you play for a national team then frankly you don't deserve to be on that team and as a spectator if you agree with things like this you don't deserve a national team in the first place.

I am sure you would cheer and root for a group of say Muslims playing in the Olympic games and representing Canada if they spit on the Canadian flag, ripped it up and burned in all in "celebration" of a victory. After 2 weeks of acting like ungrateful people for having the opportunity to play. You know free speech and all that.

Much like the NFL, the soccer players would be employees of their team. Freedom of speech doesn't factor into it because the government isn't stopping them from speaking. And for the 8 billionth time, freedom of speech does not apply to private citizens or corporations. The Constitution (and our Charter) governs the government. The U.S. has long held that private companies and organizations are allowed to punish their employees for their speech, and control the speech within their private property. That's why Youtube and twitter can ban people they don't like from their private platform, and NFL teams can bench players for kneeling. It's all under the same umbrella.

Either for or against all of it, or you're a hypocrite.

   

Sports has been a platform for athletes, political and anything else, since the first time they stuck a microphone in front of their faces... and probably before that. No matter what anybody might think, it's not going to stop.

Unless consumers decide to stop it... if you don't like it, don't watch.

And I'll say this: As a private citizen; she has the right to freedom of speech. But as an Representative of the United States Soccer Program, she does not. She's representing her nation, the ELECTED leader of which is Donald Trump. It's bad form to shit-talk the boss.

   

I know of two ex-football players who sell shoes. 1 has a sex crazed wife, a smoking hot daughter, and a son who always wants to better himself. The other is some jerk who thinks his opinions matter to me.

   

And when consumers did decide this, see the multiple failed attempts to start a women's league, the government stepped in and forced it upon the remainder of the private organizations.

So...if the consumers get to decide it, why did the government's step in?

I can sell anything if my client HAS to buy it by law.

We can't actually call these organizations private, nor can we call them government owned. They truly exist in a hybrid place in the middle.

They receive and respond to government rules and regs as if they are a direct government department, yet they accept and promote private entities as well as the government entities.

If we are going to claim that soccer is private, than we must allow it to act 100% private.

Granted, that will mean a 70-90% reduction in women's sports funding...so....

   

Government is OUR representative... believe it or not.

Me, I really don't care what athletes have to say and zone out when they're talking. I rarely listen to interviews. They only talk because people listen.

   

Government stopped being OUR representative, when they started utilizing OUR funds to ensure their own elections, in areas that I can not vote in.

Today, OUR government truly represents a handful of vested interests, while WE, the people, are left to our own machinations to survive their stupidity.

If people want to wax poetic about how things run in theory, that's fine, we all have our ways of coping with the lie that is our democracy. I choose anger and dissent, you choose to believe the theory. All good, really, as all that matters is we cope in a way that gets us through it.


I wouldn't care in the least if their voices weren't being taken seriously by public officials.

Now, whether I care or not, it will end up effecting me.

   

Therein lies the issue. Their job is to play. Leave the social commentary to the political analysts. I don't ask Ben Shapiro to throw a football for the 9ers; I don't like it when adopted and raised by wealthy white parents Colin Kaepernick gives me political commentary about an issue that he's never endured.

   

She will eventually Dixie Chick herself.
