Unfortunately soccer has never really taken off as a spectator sport in this country. As for what to see in New Liskeard I couldn't tell you as I don't think I've ever been that far North myself.

Troll430;

The only footie I see in southern ontario is on SPONET2 which is televising the Liverpool (my team) - AC milan champions league final and usually 2 premiership games/week. Other then that it would have to be SatTV.

The American version is a hell of a lot more exciting than soccer, IMO. It's funny because you see it as vice versa. I don't really find kicking a ball across a field too appealing.

Think you got that switched around. You mean girly soccer(football) to a real sport called NA Football. No contact to contact.....I really dont want to know what they consider girly in Europe. Soccers gotta be the most boring girly sport invented, probably why its popular in Europe.

There's a USL team called the Toronto Lynx you can check out. There's also the Montreal Impact. In realistic terms, they're about a division below the MLS in terms of quality.

And W.esquire, I know you're saying what you're saying just to be a prick, but you had watched the second leg of the Chelsea/Barcalona Champions League quarterfinal, you would not think as you do.

Either way, there are far more boring sports around than soccer. Golf and curling perhaps?

Was calling me a prick really necessary? I think soccers a girly sport, am I still a prick? Well, if the answer is yes, to bad. soccers a girly sport regardless of the hooligans in the stands. Actually I stand corrected, soccers cool if the fans get out of hand and kill each other out of stupidity.But then again I suppose the author at hand isnt a prick for calling NA football girly now is he?? Biased here much?

Look at it this way. In north american Football (I don't even understand the title, the foot hardly ever contacts the ball) you take a break every 30 seconds and half the team does little-to-notihng all game. In real Football every player runs for 60 minuits followed by a short intermission and back to another 60 min of running, whiles tthe whole team has to play at their top just to score atall. Contact isn't that exciting if you only have to move about a meter to get it.

Sadblue;

45 minutes to a half, 90 total not counting injury time in both halves :D

The Hoser @ Sat May 21, 2005 4:56 pm

The point still stands, 45 min in a row is harder than 30 seconds then a break.

canucker @ Sat May 21, 2005 5:48 pm

I'd rather watch paint dry than watch a soccer game. Even golf is more exciting.

The Hoser @ Sat May 21, 2005 6:36 pm

How is Golf more exciting? Golf is walking without the fun.

DixieCallin @ Sat Jul 02, 2005 11:31 am

I can't say I find soccer as exciting as the NFL or CFL...but that just me....

It's too late Biggy - here in Nova Scotia - soccer is far more popular than baseball. I coach a soccer team here and kids can't play enough of it.

The hardest thing is teaching the young people to use correct terminology like footie rather than soccer, football boots rather than soccer cleats etc.

May the greatest sport ever played totally invade this nation :)
