It may just be me but it seems all of the sports in todays world are going out the window. Super stars in all sports are crying about 2.8 million a year (american) i might add not that its better than our kick ass coloured money i hope thats the right way sometimes i get amicanized liven so close to the border eh but yea crying about a few million not being enough for them. Last i checked you can live off 2.2 million or so for your whole life and live well mind you sports players are losing the sense of love for the game. Sure they help children in the community and what not but when was the last time they just played hockey on the street or dirt road like most of us with your brothers and sisters. In fact i havent ever been payed to play the game i love and grew up with. Its not just hockey that is going down the drain either any sport you can but hear people bitching about the lack of cash. Its not until teams wont be able to pay that we will all suffer the loss of our games.

I totally agree with you Beaver. No athlete is worth the bucks. Not even the Wayne Gretzky's. Oh sure they say they play for the love of the game but when management says we goota cut back on spending they go into a hissy fit and demand to be traded.
Let me tell ya I would much rather play road hockey or sand lot ball with my friends and have a great time than get paid the big bucks. I think athletes have forgotten what sports should be about.

I agree most athlete,s do not play the for fun any more, they seem more worried about the big contract these days.I blame the agent,s they push players for more mony and onwers our stuiped and pay these salaries.
Eg mike comrie he will not play for 1.5 millon or else he living in the poor house.

Atheletes are just over priced babies. 1.5 million dollars is that all Damn cant live on that kinda cash? He should try making ends meet with the amount I make every two weeks. There are times when I would love to go to the pub and have a beer cant afford it. I dont think any athelete is worth that kind of money.
And Mukluk you are right Qoute'' or rebirth of what the games are suposed to be. I saw a bit of the rebirth sat night.

Tired of millionaire athletes? Long for the days when they played because they loved the game? I've got three words for you.....Canadian Football League.

How right yo are Mike play for the love of the game. The cfl is the only game for me. I heard Matt Dunnigan is now the Stamps coach any truth to that.

Notice how when people (especially Canadians) talk about how sports arent as good as they used to be, hockey seems to be the main focus?

Hmmm.......

feeko @ Sun Dec 28, 2003 4:14 pm

to me....Id rather watch college football, but it isnt what it used to be...

or the local H.S. teams......never know whats gonna happen....

these days the only pro sports I really follow is the caps...yeah they suck...but they are the home team..and going to mci and the local brewpubs before the game is always a good time....I just hope we sqweek into the playoffs as thats what I really like to watch..its a different game........wish they played like that the whole season..but who'd be left after 80+ games...

merdi, je la detest les basketbol

Feeko since joining this site a year ago I am beginning to grasp the American phsyc just abit. But I gotta ask you this is high school football in the states truly like the show Remember the Titans one of the best football shows I have ever seen. Anyways is there always that much hype surrounding high school football in the states. And have you ever watched a C.F.L game if so would like to hear your opinion on it. Personally I cant stand the N.F.L .

The reason athletes demand such high price tags is because someone is willing to pay it. And that someone is you. You're the one paying their salaries by buying tickets to the games, watching the games on t.v. and buying their merchandise.

Does Alex Rodriegez really deserve $250 million for being able to hit a ball? Sure he's one of the best in the game but is that skill really worth that much that much money? Someone seems to think so and its worth it to them so they pay him that much money. He brings fans to the games, he gets t.v. deals and sells merchandise making the owners enough to pay him that much.

If people said $100 is too much money to go to a hockey game and stopped going, and $100 is too much money for a t-shirt with your favourite team on it, then there's no way owners could afford to pay athletes that much money. Simple economics.

The Stamps made him coach and GM. I hope he can straighten out the mess that the new ownership has made of what was the best franchise in the league.

blubs @ Mon Dec 29, 2003 9:12 am

Mike the only way Matt is gonna clean up the mess here is have the owners stay outta his way let him run things. I liked Matt as a QB but I dont think he will make a good coach and gm I would like to see it but I dont beleive he can do it at least not over night. Trouble with ownerships is they dont give the coaches anyroom to breath so to speak let him run things on the field with no interference.
I am a true ESK fan have been from my first breath I bleed green and gold when I heard an ex ESKwas gonna coach the Stamps damn near had a heart attack.
