Same thing applies to an elected President. That's why twice impeached private citizen couldn't be criminally charged, only impeached.
Someone has to be the embodiment of 'The State', for there to be offences against 'The State'. And 'The State' cannot offend against 'The State'.

So, I guess the trial wasn't being ignored because until this week it hadn't actually even started. And she didn't die before trial began, despite what an alarming number of barely informed people were saying was going to happen to her. And, just to head off any freak out before it begins, TV cameras aren't allowed in US federal courts during trials, just the good ol' courtroom sketch artists. So there's no "cover up" going on, it's just a rule being followed. I know that's an alien concept in internet-world but some parts of society still actually operate by procedure & regulation.
