Canada is lucky we allow them to exist
Rev_Blair Rev_Blair:
The context is that Parrish was part of a negotiating team trying, along with several other countries, to keep the US from illegally invading Iraq, Johnny. By all non-US accounts the US negotiating team was belligerent, unwilling to compromise, and demanding that everything went their way. They were putting the existence of the UN at risk and insisting that they control NATO, that nobody else have a voice at all. Even the British, who were nominally on their side, were extremely unhappy with the way the US team was acting.
Parrish came out of a meeting and muttered, "Damned Americans. I hate those bastards." She thought she was speaking to an aquaintance off the record. She was clearly responding out of frustration to a group of American representatives who were insistent on going to war.
Should she have known better? Likely. Should it have been (and still be) misquoted, dragged out of context, and used by every half-bright neo-conservative on the continent to paint an unfair picture of Parrish, the Chretien regime, and pretty much everybody even slightly to the left of Stephen Harper? No.
It likely shouldn't even have made it into the press. It certainly shouldn't have been news for more than a day or two.
Yeah, well someone in her position should always think of using words better and controlling themselves. I mean, just imagine if Bush walked out of a meeting with the Chinese or Russians and said "damned Russians, I hate those basterds." I understand that it was just a line she was saying to her friends, and that it was directed at the administration, also that it probably shouldn't have been blown up as much as it was, but at the same time she used a very poor choice of wording I think. I think something like "damned white house, I hate those basterds." I mean politicians aren't perfect though, so I don't hold it much against her, I just think she has acted very foolish in the politic realm and doesn't always show a good deal of tact(such as stomping on a Bush doll for a comedy show -- she might have been told to do so, but any politician should know the outrage such a petty thing can cause).
Our PM took a stance that offended our neighbour to the South. Maybe it offended them because they automatically assumed we would bend over and be reamed in the ass at any given time. Our PM stated that we are tired of being bullied about by the United States. And, fact is, I agree. We are tired of being taken advantaged of. We are, to the Americans, the little kid who is made to do everything the bigger kid wants to be done. We are tired of this, we cannot stand arrogance. We are a strong, proud, and free country. We accept cultures, rather than trying to reform ANYONE and EVERYONE into what an American should be (Didnt an infamous German ruler do this, but to a more extreme measure? Just curious.). We are more free spirited than our loveable neighbours to the South. We ARE the fun country on this continent. Many vital inventions to society have been concieved here (read into how NASA began). We are NOT the retarted cousin. We are the country that has given so much to our neighbours, that we are realizeing we are being taken advantage of.
So build your massive fence around Canada-US boreders, make fun of us, try and take over everyone and police the world. All I can say is that these are the traits of an insecure person, wanting to be the loudest person (and quiet often, the loudest person is the most annoying).
Thanks
No harm was intended, I just felt i needed to vent in a civilized manner. And yes, I am aware I am not the worlds most perfect speller, so any Pro-America people, use that in your arseonal if you will, it just goes to show your intelligence.
Ryan
P.S: This post was aimed at those Americans who are so proud that they feel that by having Canada take a stand against the United States, is an insult. Go forth put on your bow tie, and continue seeing the world as your own society. For the Americans who are more open minded, you are welcome to stay at my home anytime you are up in our country.
Thanks again
