It was a terrible event and it's good that he can apologize about it but he was convicted 38 years ago. Isn't this old news by now.
Hell, we have people who took part in the Rwandan and Bosnian genocide living in Canada and no one goes after them. Why not?
Was that worth a page and a half of crap?
It's really pretty useless if these war criminals suddenly find morality and apologize after the fact. It's far more valuable that we identify and bring them to justice.

They were following orders. The enemy was using civies as cover, this was bound to happen sooner or later. They are just as much victims as the people they killed. Saying they were sorry for the 1st time admits to the horror and gives acknowledgment to the fallen. For them the war never ended so this is closure.

Agreed. Also, to put it into context, it illustrated well the inherent problems with the Vietnam Conflict as America was really in a civil war where traditional military objectives were replaced with kill ratios.
It really is a trenchant issue despite what the local simpletons think.
Caley and his band of merry men, should have all been put out to pasture, the Cong were mixing with the civies is a given, killing men is one thing, but women and children who are not in the act of commiting anything hostile is deplorable.
Derby, you sound like a 4 year old, "I got in trouble, I'm telling on you...waaaa"
Jeez "sunshine" (WTF is whit that anyways, a bit fruity, once is one thing, but 2-3 times in the same post borders on homo) you are grasping at staws, you mention the Chretien Martin post, yeah, I made it in direct comparison to former Prez CLinton pulling some shit out of his ass and freeing US jurnalists, you as per normal in your ENDLESS feud with Ridenrain, IMMEDIATELY jump in like a retard on the defensive and make it partisan "what about Mulrooney? What about what about......?". When as stated it was merely comparing what Slick Willy was up to in the States. Are you on the payroll for the Liberal party or what?

Two things are particularly galling about the aftermath of My-Lai:
1)That only one person was convicted when an entire rifle company participated in the massacre
2)That Calley only served 36 months of house arrest for his crime.
That is hardly justice in any sense of the word.
This was not collateral dammage or mistaken identity, women and children were killed at close range. The event was also not some news blip but historically significant as it marked the turningpoint in the PR war and the home front.

Quebec court convicts Munyaneza of war crimes in Rwanda Désiré Munyaneza, a Hutu, faces life in prison Friday, May 22, 2009 | 3:29 PM ET CBC News A Quebec court has found Désiré Munyaneza guilty of war crimes committed in the 1994 Rwandan genocide, the first conviction under a Canadian law that allows residents to be tried for crimes committed abroad.
As already noted, Mugesera is in custody, deportation pending exemption from death penalty. We don't openly condone their presence if they are here, the are 'under the radar' and not supported.
