Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an environmental activist and vaccine skeptic, held a press conference Wednesday with Robert De Niro, an actor who appeared in Meet the Fockers and who is now, I guess, a public health expert. The two are promoting a factually incorrect claim that vaccines contain a dangerous level of mercury, and they will pay anybody who proves them otherwise.
Kennedy is the chairman of something called the World Mercury Project which, per a press release, is dedicated to “stopping use of highly toxic mercury in vaccines.” He means thimerosal, which contains ethylmercury and which was once used as a preservative, but was taken out of childhood vaccines in 2001. (It isn’t proven to be hazardous to human health but was removed from those vaccines out of an abundance of caution). It’s still used in some flu vaccines, and the FDA and every other major medical body can point to a battery of studies proving it’s safe.
That is not sufficient for De Niro and Kennedy, who would like proof that the thimerosal isn’t dangerous, and will, they said, pay $100,000 for proof. (Nobody involved in this effort would classify themselves as “anti-vaccine,” of course; everyone says something to the effect that they merely want safe vaccines. Vaccines are extremely safe and very effective.) Kennedy manages to imply that we only think vaccines are safe because nobody’s done the research. From the press release:

Their video of the press conference shows that Kennedy and De Niro were joined by Del Bigtree, a former producer on a CBS talkshow called The Doctors and one of the producers of the anti-vaccine movie Vaxxed. De Niro pushed for the film to be shown at the Tribeca Film Festival last year, but it was removed following a huge outcry.

In case you missed it, there's a piece in today's Samanatha Bee about how Republicans have been using an obscure law known as the Congressional Review Acr to repeal basic environmental and wildlife protections.

Amarjeet Sohi, the minister of infrastructure and Liberal MP for Edmonton Mill Woods, rose in the house Tuesday to speak about transportation.
He began his remarks by acknowledging that as a former transit driver he was especially shocked to learn that a bus driver in Winnipeg had been stabbed to death earlier in the day.
"Mr. Speaker, as a former bus driver, I want to convey our thoughts and prayers," Sohi said.
On the video recording of the proceedings of the House of Commons, loud laughter could be heard coming from the opposition benches.
Sohi's colleagues on the Liberal side could be seen shaking their heads in disbelief.
"What I heard was laughter," Sohi said Wednesday during an interview from Ottawa.
The former transit bus driver went on to serve two terms on Edmonton city council, before winning a seat as a Liberal member of Parliament in the 2015 federal election.

I wouldn't normally think of Tony Clement as a Deplorable but today while doing a phone interview with a radio show he decided to act like one
There was nothing inappropriate about the interviewers questions but after a few unsuccessful attempts to dodge the question, Clement hangs up on him live on air then takes to Twitter for his crybaby hissy fit.

Met one the other day. Cleaning up a laptop they 'got real cheap' and found the zzzzzzzzzzzzzz account username (for real) was actually an alias for a Church in a nearby town (c:/Users).
Called the town's copshop asked them to look into it. Said I had all the current owner info in case it was stolen.
The I took the fucker's money and pointed out it came from that church. They were "Duh, I hope so and so didn't steal it from there"...

Now if they did, the customer will be out what he paid, the computer and $100 I got and the cop's will get their's and so and so's name from me too!

In his statement, Gohmert argued, “at this time there are groups from the more violent strains of the leftist ideology, some even being paid, who are preying on public town halls to wreak havoc.” One woman at Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton’s town hall on Wednesday night confronted the paid protestor conspiracy head on, telling her representative, “I’m not a paid protestor” before calling for an investigation of “President Trump, his campaign, and his administration.”
Former Rep. Giffords responded to Gohmert on Thursday in a statement of her own, essentially telling lawmakers who have so far refused to hold town halls for their constituents to suck it up. The former Arizona Democrat explained how “town halls and countless constituent meetings were a hallmark of [her] tenure in Congress.”
She said it was how she was able to serve the people she represented. Giffords’ statement then added, “I was shot on a Saturday morning. By Monday morning my offices were open to the public. Ron Barber — at my side that Saturday, who was shot multiple times, then elected to Congress in my stead — held town halls.”
“It’s what the people deserve in a representative,” Giffords wrote. “To the politicians who have abandoned their civic obligations, I say this: Have some courage. Face your constituents. Hold town halls.”

For a self-proclaimed "tough guy" state it's kind of amazing that Texas keeps re-electing someone like Louis Gohmert, who isn't just the stupidest person sitting in Congress at any given time but who is also apparently a bigger snowflake than any libbo from California or New York could ever be.
