I recall Jimmy Carter having kind words for President Nixon saying that Nixon's opening of talks with Russia and China went a long way for world peace.
Frankly, Nixon was one of our most successful Presidents on foreign relations AND he extracted us from Vietnam...something I hope Trump does with getting the US out of the sandbox.
Eliminate the Watergate disaster and Nixon might have gone down in history as one of the better presidents of the 20th century. He had a wide-ranging social agenda that included some kind of national health care plan that might have been implemented if he had been able to complete his second term.
It's also important to remember that Nixon wasn't corrupt in the traditional sense. The Nixon White House wasn't full of shady profit-centric deal-making the way Reagan, Clinton, or Bush Jr ran their administrations. And it was definitely not sewer-grade disgusting the way the Trump Regime is. Watergate was about Nixon's paranoia leading him to order illegal acts in order to get a one-up on the Democratic campaign of 1972. The dumbest thing about it is that the break-in wasn't even needed to beat the Dems. Eugene McCarthy was going to lose to Nixon regardless of whatever it was the Watergate burglars found. The entire episode was a completely un-necessary self-destruction on the part of Nixon and his inner circle.
Putting Trump and Nixon in the same sentence is basically an insult to Nixon. He was by far a better and much more decent man than that thing in the White House right now could ever hope to be.
